TheRightDoorIsNotTheLeft Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Since launch day, I've been using Bethesda's feedback page for Starfield, and now Shattered Space. Maybe I'm just shouting in the wind, but at least I can say I've given them specific feedback on many occasions. Those of you with opinions, one way or the other, should also give them feedback. Maybe it's a waste of keystrokes, but it's better to give them feedback than to keep it to yourself. Maybe all the feedback goes into a black hole, but then again, maybe not. I'm hoping that if every player who wanted more out of this game -- and especially the DLC -- gives them constructive feedback with specific examples -- they might actually get the multiple slaps in the face that they really need and do better.

9 years ago my wife and I (with separate accounts) took part in the "closed" and "open" beta test of TES-Online. Yes - officially it says "Zenimax" ... but it was Mr. Todd H. who promoted the game with his public appearances ... and as an MMO-RPG it is of course set in the TES universe of Bethesda ("Morrowind", "Oblivion" and "Skyrim") And since this was not our first beta test for a new game - my wife had previously taken part in at least 20-25 such tests - we diligently prepared reports (e.g. about errors found). It was quite sobering to find that when the game was officially launched, almost all of the bugs we reported were included in the retail version of the game! The exchange with other beta testers showed that we had not found any insignificant/minor errors ourselves - our lists were almost identical. In the 9-10 months that I played the game after the official launch... the developer has to fix errors in an online game himself - the mod community cannot do this for technical reasons... but the developer was hopelessly overwhelmed by it. Yes, there were regular (every 3-4 weeks) patches to fix errors... as soon as one error was fixed, another error appeared again! All feedback from players to the official body... was obviously deliberately ignored. And they "topped it off" -> instead of fixing errors, new "content" was released after 6 months - new areas for high-level characters. They were intended for "master level" from level 10 ... after 2-3 weeks the areas were then made accessible from M level 1. At this low level you obviously had no chance even in groups ... so the action on the area map was concentrated on 3 hotspots ... 20-40 players besieged a "super boss" - once he was defeated you went to the next one via a "teleporter". If you lasted 4-6 hours a day - you climbed from M level 1 to 11 in less than 1 week. Ultimately pure "occupational therapy" for the players - because they still couldn't play through the areas intended for them (i.e. according to their level) properly ... the quest chains of the areas were linear - at one point I couldn't get any further due to a fundamental bug - there was also no access to the next area. That's what happened to me - I was stuck in one place for 3 months - even my guild couldn't help me - because you could only enter the "inner instance" in question if you had never done this part of the quest before... and this boss couldn't be defeated solo with my character class. This annoying error had been pointed out over and over again for months (including by several clan leaders) via feedback - no one on the developers' side was interested!! When they then switched from the original subscription system to "pay-to-win" - contrary to promises - I buried the "Zenimax" and "Bethesda" chapter. "Fallout 76" and "StarField" have far exceeded the worst fears we had back then (8 years ago)! It is an absolute exception that games that have already been released are withdrawn and thoroughly revised after massive criticism from players! 1
TheRightDoorIsNotTheLeft Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 I guess the best feedback Bethesda can get is their mostly-negative rating on Shattered Space. If nobody buys ES6 -- or at least so few people buy it that it might as well be nobody -- they'll finally start listening. But by then, it will be too late for the company. At least this time I didn't get AI feedback on my Steam review this time, telling me I was playing the game wrong. 1
TheRightDoorIsNotTheLeft Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 Maybe giving feedback on the Bethesda website sometimes works. After the DLC launched and I finished it, I gave feedback about the lack of post-DLC dialogue with the Lodge members if you chose the good ending. After the latest Starfield patch, looks like they fixed it. So maybe giving feedback isn't totally useless.
DocClox Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 (edited) Dunno what I'd say to be honest. My major gripes with the game are the effect the Creations initiative is having on the modding scene, and the forced DEI elements. Both of these seem to a matter of policy. I honestly can't see how I could frame either complaint in a constructive way, and even if I could, I doubt there'd be much willingness to change. Much as I love the game, Starfield just seems too much like hard work at the moment. I'll probably revisit sometime after the next DLC drops. Right now it's hard to summon any enthusiasm for the game. Edited November 26, 2024 by DocClox

Even though those are your major pain points, there has be other things that bug you, like shallow dialogue trees from major NPCs, puddle deep story in Shattered Space, especially when you have Andreja as a follower (even after finishing her personal quest), etc. The more people keep quiet about it and not mention things on their feedback page, the more they can be like Baghdad Bob and believe that maybe they should have waited on making the dune buggy available.
