Motherboard issue maybe?

So I've had my computer for about 4 months now I'd say and I built it brand new, not by my hand but by the company and I started to get a blue screen and through hours of trying to figure it out myself. Someone suggested taking out a ram stick and it worked. My computer is fine minus the ram stick. So my question is, is the ram stick bad? When I placed another ram stick in the slot, it blue screened and wouldn't start up, so I'm wondering if the slot is bad or maybe loose? Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful.

It can happen that some RAM sticks have defects even from thw best brands.

To know if the problem comes from the motherboard you can try :

- Switching the 2 RAM sticks you have to see if problem occurs with a specific one

- Switching the RAM slots

In any case the problems comes either from the RAM or from the motherboard's RAM slots.

Lordofthedread is correct. Let me elaborate

Use the bad one in the good slot that you currently using that allows the computer to work properly. If the bad memory works in the current "good" slot then there is likely something wrong with the computer Motherboard. If it don't it is very likely the memory stick is bad.

As far as other memory not working or giving the same problem in the slot that the old bad memory is in could simply be that you have a wrong stick of memory. There are many variables that need to be taken into consideration in memory especially when you mix memory. This Alien never mixes memory this includes "paired" memory (memory that is sold in pairs)

However most computer hardware and builders do have a12mo warranty. Check into that as well.

Lets not jump to ahead of ourselves here. RAM acts differently if its DDR3 RAM.

We need the RAM model and Motherboard model before we do anything. But I agree the problem is one of them.

What motherboard are you using and what RAM are you using?

Well this is my motherboard GA-970A-UD3. My ram is a ddr-3 1600 micron. To throw a wrench in the works. I decided to put it back in and everything worked fine until i tried some updates. Back to blue screen... I'll wait for your advice now you know my ram and motherboard.

Also can you back up your computer data and OS during this.

Then try to "restore" your OS to a previous time when it worked reliably in case there is some driver or OS issue since it also happens during updates. Which bios are you running. Is it updated to the most current AMD bios? There might be some bios update that is needed or you might have the bios updated from a previous and now have problems.

At your level of experience verfying the memory works in the slots and making sure that there isn't any problems with the OS like driver issues or virus or something is about all you can do. Afterward you most likely will have to take it in to a computer shop to find out the problem because it will get more and more technical from here.
