update.esm messed up

My update.esm seems to be causing me not to be married, absorb dragon souls and when I make a new character it causes ralof or the imperial dude to stop working properly.

Delete Update.ESM and let Steam verify your game files. it should then re-download the file.
Don't forget to clean and bash-tag it afterwards (again) and you're good to go.

if the problem persists, it's a mod or script that's causing it. in this case uninstall all mods and delete the script folder.
Repeat the verify thru steam process and reinstall the SKSE scripts.
