Yuukino_Takkashi Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 I have been playing Dota 2 for quite a while and i have managed to find a way to get skins without buying ingame i havent gotten banned at all for using it and yes the skins and all the menu stuff can only be seen by you and no one else I managed to find a website called dota2skinchanger which was how im able to get skins into the game but most of the stuff they gave are very much paid and you can't edit them almost to your liking but after hours and hours spent i managed to found out how i can edit them to my liking but the problem is im not at artist nor am i ever going to be good at it when using blender or other 3d softwares in youtube there are some channels where you can get premade skin packs i used 2 or 3 of them and combine into 1 which i like obviously every update there is a change that the skins might not work again because of this i have to keep editing the packs every update to get what i like the way this works is: there is a VPK file which is inisde a folder called Dota2SkinChanger which contains all the skins that you want to change and stuff and there is also a folder "Dota" that contains 2 txt files which is mandatory for the skins to work to edit the VPK file you have to use an VPK editor this one is the best by far i have found https://github.com/craftablescience/VPKEdit the reason this is best is because the vpk file that dota2skinchanger have contains file with names like .vmdl_c" or .vtex" the (") is not alowing many extactors to extract properly and they show an error but this VPKEdit extracts them with then _QUOT_ behind them you still get an error if you re compress your folder into vpk and install the skin pack but since you know the name you can just search in the search bar _QUOT_ and delete all files with that name so now you have a vpk folder with easily editable skins and afterwards you can recompress into a vpk with VPKEdit right now the way im doing is just replacing the vmdl files and such to achieve the skins i want i also use a software called Source 2 viewer to look at the vmdl_c files or decompile them if you decompile them you get a few files that you can edit them with the workshop tools given to you in the dlc section of dota2 (steam) this is where the problem begins i dont understand shit about 3d editing or animations or blender so i can't do much but replace files and files to get what i want this video has the latest skin mod for this time Right now what i know is there is for some heroes a thing called hero_base.vmdl_c this file is the body for the hero with animations and textures not including the armor you cannot just delete the armor vmdl_c file you need to make it look empty or no model so i found a premade nomodel file i just copy that and rename it to the armor name so now armor have no model and in dota 2 there will only be the hero base texture and no armor thats all i can manage right now but if you can edit the base vmdl_c you can make it nude lol or if you are very good at shit you can even create an outfit for it using the workshop tools given by dota2 in the dlc section and even add animations to it I hope this post get seen and there are other people like me lol im not wierd lol im also a skyrim modder if u know what i mean XD if you need any questions about the stuff i said please feel free to comment
ClareFox Posted October 25, 2025 Posted October 25, 2025 Hellooo^^ I've been doing this for a while now, but all my attempts have only been successful once. And those files have long since been lost and forgotten... Any success with this?
BigChiefLeaf Posted October 28, 2025 Posted October 28, 2025 Damn I'd actually love to texture some base models to be sexy, I can do the dota 2 style pretty well, I'm just not a character artist so I don't make humanoid meshes very often, if anyone wants to go through the trouble of digging up the mesh files and give me a base dota model I dont mind sexifying it, no males though, I don't swing that way, thanks clare for digging this post up :]
ghostfalll Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I'm just more surprised that someone figured out how shove custom models into Dota 2, thought steam had sufficiently locked that down to workshop only. But dunno about what the OP means about DLC tools, just checked DOTA 2 DLC and it's just music...? Mistranslation, maybe?
