You could go in the json, copy all entries that say "male", and make a second copy for them that says "female" so those models take both slots.

Vortex likes to do dumb stuff for no reason and cause unnecessary headaches. With animation or model paks, the files go in ~mods, the .json file goes in the JSON folder (SwapJSON for model swappers), and you re run the create load list bat file as admin.

This may be a bit of a selfish question - How would I go about disabling certain pal skins to allow other mods to take their place?

Wouldn't necessarily call that selfish. In any case, while it's not required, I'd highly recommend Altermatic. You could manually go into the json files and do it, but Altermatic makes it much easier. It'll let you swap between any models you've added on the fly without having to enable/disable or add/remove models. Well, sorta. Can't do it with party members. Have to put them in a base to swap them. Just be aware that Zephyr's models aren't designed to work with SCake. IE the males don't get erect and thus don't work properly with sex animations.
