If you kill Travis in the game SHENG KOWALSKI WILL TAKE OVER DIAMOND CITY RADIO??? Like the water pedalling Child on the opposite end of the city. Just found this out today after 3000 and several playthoughs, never even crossed my mind that Trav wasn’t essential then I just went and took a fat man to him because I thought it was funny. I’ve never seen anyone talk about it!

Yea, and if you kill both of them the ghost of Sheng still takes over the radio instead of it going silent.

You'd be surprised of the shenanigans you can pull off. Like getting Raiders to kill almost everyone in Diamond City. That's a fun challenge!

Or killing the 2 NPC's by Valentine's office while the Kyle conflict is going on so they don't start the Follow the freedom trail quest.

Lot of folks don't know that Ann Hargreaves can be a settler/Level 4 clothing merchant. Although Bugthesda missed the opportunity to sell unique outfits with her.

Or the messages in the bottles found around the coast. Or the references to movies/tv shows like Jaws & Cheers. Or the Chinese sub in the harbor.

There are a shite ton of details, a lot that are glaring, that most overlook in an effort to just beat the game. Even at 22.5K hours I still notice things I missed or maybe forgot about.
Bugthesda did do a very good job in that respect.

Since you just mentioned the thing with the submarine:

Precisely because games by Bugdesta only really shine through the abundance of hidden (and often "eccentric") parts or stories - I have been exploring these game worlds quite thoroughly since "Morrowind" and "Fallout 3".

That's why I noticed the submarine in the very first playthrough (about 10 years ago) - but what you can do with it in a self-written story... well, I discovered that about 1.5 years ago

Since my game character is not the vanilla Nora - but thanks to "alternative start" I am a synth who escaped from the institute - I can link my character's "past life" (she also comes from the pre-war era) with the submarine

90% of all players rush through the games - regardless of the manufacturer or the "topic" it is.

Only a minority - people whose attention span is well over 45 seconds - make the effort to search through games extensively (in-game).

Of course, this often involves hundreds if not several thousand hours of time... and in today's hyper-active Internet, this is a time saver but not a "money pot" - in a society that, like "hares", chases after every tiny "sensation"... the "hedgehogs" are always there before them.

---

For me personally, other things are much more interesting... for example, what would have become of this pre-war world - if the atom bombs had NOT fallen... completely independent of who was the first to "press the button"

And the creators of the Fallout games (started with "Interplay" for Fallout-1) have left a clearly visible trace in their games... you just have to WANT to find it!

The clues are particularly obvious in "Fallout 4" - you just have to be willing to put the puzzle together:

a) - Lake in the north of the map ... you can find advertisements for a fishing tournament - you can find reports of participants who fell into the lake suffering fatal radiation poisoning

b) Oceanological station in Nahant ... clues about mutations in the fish ... being brushed off by the press or reinterpreted as the mutations being something positive - because the catch (in terms of mass) is increasing

c) Waterworks - to which you are sent by the robots from the farm ... water treatment costs are constantly rising - this threatens the company with financial collapse ... experiments on treating waste water and DIRECT feeding into drinking water have led to epidemics in the greater Boston area in the event of accidents

there are more - but I have essentially referred to these three in my story ... the trend is ultimately clearly:

within 6 months at the latest, the USA would have collapsed both economically and ecologically... because, contrary to what the term "pre-war" suggests, the USA was already involved in a global "conventional" war with China - which had used up all resources.
