[XCL] Multiple Characters [0.20] [DISCONTINUED]

WARNING
This mod has been integrated into the core game and is no longer needed as an additional download for any character mod

WHAT DOES IT DO?

 

Multiple Characters is a framework that allows additional player characters beyond the original 10 playable characters. To use this mod, DO NOT unzip it! Load the file into the game using the mod loader. The Mod Loader will do all the work.

 

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PLAY WITH A NEW CHARACTER?

 

You will need to download those other character packs in order to play them.

When using this mod, press start game (no intro) don't show masculinity page, the page just blank.

 

At first I thought it's mod conflict, but only with this mod enabled the problem persists.

Update for the missing skip intro coming later today. In the meantime, the ladies first mod will let you skip it (and has the masculinity options)

I tried installing ladies first and the pregmod and am having the same issue still. It flashes the masculinity options on the screen for half a second before it goes blank

Is this still 0.19 compatible? Some character mods which updated to 0.19 recently still list it as requirement.

Are you sure this is working with 0.19?  Cause even with this new update, I've been having issues ever since the subscribestar beta.  Everytime I go to start a new game skipping the intro and select starting masculinity it displays the following error.

Rather than immediately going to the welcome screen, it sits on the masculinity screen for a few seconds, then those 2 error messages will pop up for less than a second.  The game then starts up normally, however as soon as you do anything sex related (Masturbation, actual npc sex, doesn't matter) more errors will pop up in rapid succession and basically make the game unplayable. 

 

For the record, I am only using the multiple characters mod by itself, there are no actual character mods or other unrelated mods.  Adding in those does not fix or reduce the issue.  I've tested this both on Firefox and a Chromium based browser, and both have the exact same results.

That one hasn't been updated for even XCL 0.18, let alone 0.17, as I recall...

Hey, I'm the author of the Bar Girls mod. you're correct I never finished updating it to v0.17 and it's also now been discontinued since Aphrodite is now starting to rework the parts of the game the mod focused on.

Well, somewhat. 😅 I think some of the expansion of the bar girls stuff ended up being skipped, and the next thing on the road map is simple dating in version 0.20.

Ah that's disappointing to hear. The Bar Girls mod basically completely rewrote the entire section of the game relating to the girls at the bar, which is why I decided to discontinue the mod, since absolutely any change would require manually going through and updating all the bits the update touched so it's converted properly to the mods version of the code.

 

Sadly I'd basically lost interest in the game by the time I discontinued the mod as well. I'd completely stopped playing the game and was only loading it up to do play tests. I've since moved on to other projects. The Bar Girls branch is still in the main games git repo though, so it's there if me or anyone else ever wanted to revive it at some point though.

 

I'd finished updating it to the next version, I think that was 0.17? But I was holding off release until I'd fixed the last bug with a new scene I'd added. But to be honest, I was hitting major feature creep. The unreleased new update expanded how much of the base game I was replacing, so it would have just made supporting it even harder moving forwards.

I know the feeling. The Spike Fun mod I created primarily to increase my own enjoyment of the game, gets harder and harder to maintain as the base game changes. I'm not likely to be able to keep up with it indefinitely. 

Mods can be hard work when the underlying game is changing on a regular basis.

Personally, I think the entire bar girls section of the game needs an overhaul, but I have no idea if or when it will happen...sounds like it's not that popular with a large portion of the player base.

Yeah the aspect of xchange where you're not the one popping the pills is always sorely unloved.

 

The fact the bar girls section of the game is one of the oldest parts is exactly why I made my mod in the first place. I think it was actually the first mod, it was way before all the easy to use modding features were added. I think the modding channel in the discord was actually made because I kept chatting to Aphrodite about how to make certain changes.

 

I'd originally wanted to get my mod merged onto the base game as the overhaul that was needed, but things didn't turn out like that. I got the feeling that Aphrodite, while being an excellent dev and wonderful to chat to, much prefers having complete knowledge of how the game functions. I think my mod was just a bit too complicated, much like the code formatting work I did for the game. I basically formatted a sizable chunk of the game code all at once and Aphrodite never approved the merge request, said it was too much to code review. Also didn't go anywhere when I split chunks off into smaller merge requests.

 

Ah well. It's a brilliant game, I plan on checking back up on it in a few years to see where's it's gotten to.

Been getting this error, narrowed it down to this mod. Only happens during Sex scenes, haven't run into it in BJ or solo scenes. Specifically, occurring as a redhead while loitering in the mall on Day 1.

sorry i made a little mistake. i did't mean the bargirls mod but the girls girls girls mod. the mod loader shows a conflict between the multiple ch and girls girls girls. is it possible to make it compatible?

Are new characters supposed to be only available via the New-U machine, or are they intended to be selected at the start? I've loaded the framework and LittleBlonde, but I have no option pick her from the start. Pressing the character select arrows eventually causes )))) to appear. Or (((( for the left arrow.

I just tried this with latest May release of the game and get lots of errors even if I only load your mod.

The latest release of the base game is a play test version. Mod authors can use this to fix problems between the base game and mods, so issues can be solved before a new base game version is released.

 

Since there is no new official version of the base game is released (yet), the current version of Multiple Characters only works with XCL 0.19. The errors you are getting are caused by the changes made to the base game in the play test version. Going back to playing with the official version 0.19 will solve it.
