gsguns Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Recently, I read that the engine will allocate a certain amount of memory for each ESP installed in your Skyrim, and that too many ESP will require more memory, which has led me to wander. Ex: I'm using the Immersive Patrols mod along with Requiem. Requiem released a patch that will properly stats and perk the Immersive Patrols npcs with Requiem values. The patch will provide a ESP for each Immersive Patrols module. If I merge those compatibility patches, does that mean that the game will no longer have to allocate the memory for these ESP since they are now merged in one big patch?
Rayblue Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Officially you could have up to 254 mods (this includes skyrim.esm, update.esm and the .ESMs for the DLCs) active at the same time, but what will really eat up resources are: 1.) Textures -- you could use texture optimizers, or better yet pick up lower resolution textures to get more video and system memory. 2.) Papyrus scripts -- you can allocate more memory if you add new script-driven mods, but be warned that scripts will remain "baked" into the save even after deactivating it unless it comes with its own uninstallation method. Minimum system memory you could use is 4gb, anything less with modded Skyrim will cause it to CTD.
