coiledspring Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Hi, As Fallout 4 is on good sale today, I became interested in trying out some of its lewd mods, but I'm wondering if it is even less tolerant to conflicts than Skyrim, on which I spent 4 hours, trying to get my selection of mods working (and they still glitch some) If you have experiences modding both games, I'd be interested in hearing about those.
Howarde Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 It's hard, there are a lot less mods than skyrim, a lot are abandonned, and it's really version sensitive ^^"
coiledspring Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 I see. Maybe it is safe to stick with latest Steam version and mods that have been updated lately. I'm happy if I will get just Human Resources mod and its perquisites working.

I found FO4 a little easier, however as I'd been modding Skyrim for a number of years it wasn't difficult. I would recommend following this guide for your setup, I found it worked first time out of the box https://www.loverslab.com/topic/139374-aaf-the-fucking-manual-~-up-to-date-adult-oriented-setup-guide-19june2023 AAF is a general animation system rather than Sexlab which is geared specifically towards sex. There are less sex animations than than in Skyrim, however some of the currently supported mods like Sexual Attributes, Sexual Harassment, AAF Violate (and others) are better than what you'll find in Skyrim in my view. As with Skyrim avoid abandoned mods and watch your load order. 1
coiledspring Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 Thanks for help. I tried to follow that guide 2 times already, but both times when launching F4SE with MO2, the game crashed back to desktop after ~15 seconds of intro animation. Can't find any logs entries that would help figure out what happens. Seems like disabling Devious Devices fixes that, for some reason. Maybe I can manage without that mod, but it could just be that it's position is wrong in my mods list.
ebbluminous Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 It depends on the mods being installed as to whether easier or harder... E.g. I've never managed to make the high poly face mods work no matter what instructions I follow. Always get brown/black face, Never happens in Skyrim. Oh this upcoming update for FO4 gonna be a popcorn moment
Lost Resolution Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Fallout 4 is more glitchy than SSE there is a lot of issues with Fallout 4 vanilla itself >.> Yes as mention there is a lot mods which are basically worthless and will only cause problems. The older they are the more problems they may cause if they where not kept update. Also Fallout 4 has issues with lose files and bsa format for files is better if not superior.
Tesla_reloaded Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 FO4 is easier to mod. First, there's only one version of FO4, no "Special Edition", no "before 1.6.640 patch and after". Second, FO4 is much more forgiving when you disable a mod. A bunch of mod in Skyrim, once installed, won't let you disable them without breaking your save file (it just won't load at all). Third, yes, plenty of FO4 mods are outdated and abandoned. But Skyrim is even older and even more mods for it are obsolete. And many of those mods were never ported to SE. Fourth, that leads to many complicated dependences. Skyrim has tons and tons of "resource packs", "DLL libraries" and other stuff you need to install to make other resource packs work that required for mods. Some of those resource packs are outdated and need to be replaced with forks. FO4 has such resource packs and plenty of them, but usually it never exceeds one or two layers. And finally, fifth, FO4 mods are just easier to work with. For example Skyrim version of MCM is a pain in the ass. It doesn't save mod settings in between different playthroughs. Each time you start a new game you have to wait for a bunch of mods to initialize, then to set them up, which is a huge pain when you start a new game again and again while building your mod loadout. And it's just one of many examples. 1
