Screws Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 So, I'm getting together a small team to make some lewd games in the future and right now a few members have some life stuff going on, but I figured I could put a post out on here to see if I can maybe find others interested in working on some lewd games and maybe even make some money (As part of the plan is to sell said games on Steam and potentially have a patreon to accept donations.) Trouble is, we don't really have any good artists in our ranks. I was hoping some people here might take interest and show off their character modelling and environmental modding skills. Some of our games will be 3D and some will be in 2D with the 2D art probably being more important at the start. (We plan to build up some simple titles under our belts so that way we can finance the bigger 3D projects more easily.) That being said, we do have plans, but right now they are on hold and I'm just looking for people with talent and are interested in putting their skills to good work and maybe show some examples down below of what work you could bring to the table.
DatWombat Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Hey @Screws, Maybe you should be more clear about what kind of "lewd games' your team is trying to make. The artistic requirements for say, a visual novel would differ drastically from say, a 2D action side-scroller or a first person experience. When you say "environments" that makes me think "open world 3D design" which is a bit more skill and time intensive than say, a Daz Studio artist using premade content. I don't have the skill set to meet your needs (most likely, anyways), but you may want to make it clear you're paying (or not paying) for artwork. I mean it takes me several hours to output a single image in Daz Studio. It'd take some convincing to get me to work my GPUs for 100s of hours for someone else without compensation. Frankly, I'd rather make my own content so I can buy another PC.

For the 2D right now, we're thinking of a sort of roguelike tower defense game. For the 3D we have two ideas in the works, one a brothel management game, and the other being somewhat similar to Risk of Rain 2 but with an added twist. As for payment, well I'd like to get some estimates and such from artists (I don't typically know where to find and hire artists for games, especially for a lewd game lol) I mean we do plan to make like an official indie company down the line.. or perhaps after the first release? However, I'd try to find a way to pay out of my own pocket for art assets. We're still a ways off from that point in time though. Some other projects in the works and IRL stuff, but I figured might as well put out an advertisement and see what talent we could potentially hire or even recruit to the team if they're interested in staying for the long term.

You see, that really narrows down what kind of art you're after! When I think 2D tower defense, I think about top-down or isometric pixel art and colorful icons. That, or maybe some simplistic 3D models. As for 3D content, I think that might be more challenging. From my research though, Risk of Rain models look more manageable than realistic graphics. A common mistake I've seen small teams make with 3D games is overshoot size. A 3D artist will want to know exactly what you want, most likely. I don't know if you've worked with 3D modeling software before, but even simple models take a lot of time and collective skill. I'll be honest, I have no idea where lewd developers find artists. I've only seen "behind the scenes" for very small, single man teams. They typically find a lewd artist and get a quote for say, a handful of sex scenes and animations. I'm sure you can find an artist interested in a claim to fame without pay, I don't mean to say all art requires pay. To be honest, getting someone behind all of the assets for your game(s) would likely be very expensive if you went the route of a professional artist. I think you're making a good move to ask around first. I'd love to help out indie teams if I wasn't busy writing about games!

More.. anime-ish? I have worked with 3D modeling software before and it can be a bitch lol. That's why I'm thinking of starting our little merry band on 2D games and working our way up to 3D games when we can dedicate some more finances to it. You and me both lol. Yeah, I've noticed a bunch of the one man teams end up doing the art themselves as well, which is pretty impressive ngl, but slows down their progress because they spend that time modeling instead of coding and programming the game and what not. Well I appreciate that. I'm new to this whole thing so I'm trying to take some good first steps to maybe make something great lol. I do have a bit of ambition in wanting to maybe one day head my own lewd game dev company.. be the next Illusion or something XD. However, gotta take the first steps. Might have eyes bigger than my stomach as the old saying goes. And I should say, I do have solid plans for the games in question laid out, its just I am a bit hesitant to just spill the beans so to speak. Who knows, I present the idea out publicly and some savvy indie dev scoops it up and turns it around into their own project, screwing over me and my team. (Which honestly I just want to make the games so I can play them personally, not even really for profit reasons, but hey if you can make money off it, why not?)
Blehbreh Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 @Screws What kind of team do you have together for this prospective project?

Still pretty much assembling it and figuring out who all I can get on board. Some people have been wishy washy and mainly waiting for the main coder/programmer to get some free time.
wolflord1245 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Hey screws, if you still need people I might be able to help. I'm not very experienced but I do know my way around blender a bit and unreal engine. I am still fairly new though, only been messing with it a few years so I'm not that great. I did go to a tech school for animation for 2 years but where I live has very few opportunity's for animation work. I don't have much in the way of a portfolio except for stuff I've done just by messing around. You don't have to pay me until you feel like it's worth something, I really just need a place to build experience. I do have a job and usually have a lot to do during the day but I can maybe do a bit here and there. You can email me at dumpybumpy69@gmail.com if you're interested.

Blehbreh Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 @Screws I also may be able to provide you with some concepts or mockups for reference to your potential project when the time comes, if I am free at the time.

wolflord1245 Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 @Screwssorry but rethinking my schedule I don't have the time to get into a project like that. But I wish you luck!
