Koko.Hekmatyar
This is something I've been wondering about ever since I joined LL Why does the page for adding your avatar say to use and imagine 200px or larger but then has a 50kb size limit making most avatars that size useless without adjusting their quality to reduce their file size? Ark of Truth
Because it assumes you are going to use jpeg for an avatar. Jpeg are the small file size for pictures and have the best quality. Link to comment
Koko.Hekmatyar
all of my avatars are jpeg and in or around the 200x200 range and are over 50kbs because they are high res pics. this one for example I have in 400, 300, and 200 and all of them are over 50kbs I had to lower it's quality to use it. Ark of Truth
It loses quality anyway when uploaded. People look at a avatar for like 5secs and that's it. If your worried so much about it tell Ashal here and see if he can change it or more important if he wants to change it. Link to comment
Groovtama
You can reduce the filesize without reducing the resolution (may reduce overall image quality, too), by using an index mode picture instead of an rgb mode picture for your avatar. Link to comment
Koko.Hekmatyar
Naw not really THAT big on an issue I was just always curious if it was just the forums base settings or if it was like that on purpose since the LL forums and the Forums used by Nexus are basically the same and I can upload a 400x430 avatar that is roughly 90kbs.
