Hotkey and View button

Hey all,

Have a very strange issue, have no idea where to even start.  Just recently reinstalled Oblivion, and now for some reason I no longer can set hotkeys and my view button has changed to Q from the middle mouse?  I can deal with the view button, but the hotkeys are a different story.  Has this happened to anyone else, and if so how did you fix it?  Thanks in advance for any information.

And in the Oblivion Settings menu you can change the keys.

By view button do you mean to view your character (vanity view) and switch between 1st and 3rd person views?  That's always been the middle mouse as far as I'm aware.  You can also use the R button.  Hold either for vanity view.  Both are listed as default in the Oblivion manual.

 

To set a hot key you must be viewing your inventory.  Hold a hot key number and click on the item or spell to assign.  The hot key is automatically cleared if the item is removed from your inventory.  If you are not in your inventory or spell list I'm pretty sure you cannot set a hot key (I've never tried it in the map, quest, or character info pages).

 

Q is automove (also by default according to the Oblivion manual).  That sets your character continuously moving forward so you can just steer with the mouse.  Useful for covering long distances.

 

Sorry if you already knew this.  Just wanted to make sure to cover the obvious.

Hey Sarnaath, fejeena, thanks for the responses.  Should have made it clear that I know how to set hotkeys and remap keys, my problem is I can't.  While in inventory view, if I hold down a number while an item is selected, absolutely nothing happens.  Likewise when I go into the controls option, I can not select the middle mouse key for the 1st / 3rd / vanity views, just does not recognize that the mouse has more than two keys.  Like I said, weird.  And fejeena, this was occurring before I loaded a single mod, happened as soon as I reinstalled this time.
