ENB: "Hardware AA detected" but none is "on"

I posted this on the ENB board, but dude is in Russia so time lag. Plus i'm likely to get a bit more convo here.

When I start skyrim, I get the red line of text "hardware aa detected" but as far as I can tell none is on. I reinstalled about a week ago as I tried to fix various video-related issues I was having. Also, I use "mod organizer" which keeps the skyrim dir clean.

skyrim launcher has both HWAA and FXAA to off and the nvidia control panel is set like so.

End result is that sometimes I get the warning, sometimes not, and I still have anomalies related to hwaa being on.
[edit] i discovered that it shows everytime, except sometimes it will wait till I change cells.

enb disabled: http://imgur.com/inlnx9B
enb enabled: http://imgur.com/wvWKDY7

The body isn't like this everywhere, but static meshes pop in and out in random places when enb enabled. This wasn't a problem at all until I upgraded enbseries to 217

the questions are:
In the nvidia cpanel, is it better to set these things to OFF or "Application controlled?"
Where else can I check to make sure hwaa is off?
What could be causing the problem with meshes?

Open your SkyrimPrefs.ini (Username\Documents\MyGames\Skyrim\)

Go to section [Display]

iMultiSample=0

Make sure it is set to 0

NV Panel - Manage 3D Setings

Go to the "Programm settings" tab and check forced values for Skyrim

Unless you're using ModOrganizer. (looking at your sig you probably are) Then your skyrimprefs are in a different location and anything you do in the launcher won't affect your game.

Inside ModOrganizer click on the tools button at the top and edit your ini from there. Or go to your MO profile folder and edit it in your favorite Notepad app.

Also, if you updated the latest enb it may just be your current preset was not designed for that particular binary. Presets are picky about which binary they use and you have to be careful about updating enb

I had dumped all kinds of shit to test it. the thing i hadn't dumped was ModOrganizer.

And it of course is "DDUUUUHHH" with the ini stuff. I had a couple times where it worked, but I couldn't figure out why... it's because I launced the game from the skyrim launcer not MO.

thanks, both of you.

UUGGHH and now I discover that no changes of parameters works while in game. ENB is active, but when I change parameters there's no effect. I can tell it's active because the shadows change (become softer) when I toggle it on or off, and vegetation and ppl have ssao shadows at their feet.

I have to go out of the game, edit the text file manually, then "apply changes" for it to react to changes.

How are you making changes?  Through the GUI?  If so do you press esc so your at the main menu and your camera doesn't move? If so there won't be any updates. If you open the console with ~ though you should see changes for most of it. But some effects require you to press the apply button. And some still require a restart.

Right.

~ > 'tm' for maximum view.

I've found the problem is different than what I thought... SOME parameters change, others don't at all. I can change lighting and colors, but some sections are ignored regardless of what I do. SSAO, DoF, Adaptation, and Bloom.

Yes I've enabled them, both in the gui and in the text file. Silly thing is that is that they're actually active, but my parameters have no effect.

Let's see what 218 does...

[edit] this sucks. I've been using enb for well over a year and alla sudden the bottom just falls out. I shouldn't have upgraded from 201.

so i've no idea what the problem was, but I fixed it by completely dispensing with stock enb .fx files.

went with Skyrealism - ENB Evolved and everything works as it should.

It's a solid enb mod. It's a true mod, too, because the author rewrote the .fx files completely and from scratch. yay him.

for problems in the future. this sounds like u used a ENB preset and manually changed the ENB core data. (d3d9.dll, enbhost.exe or and enblocal.ini/enbseries.ini)

If you are using a preset and you are updating any ENB files you have to rewrite the enbseries.ini / enblocal.ini, Boris made dozen of changes in the past and old presets may not work together or as expected. Use WinMerge and or Notepad++ to do it yourself, if you have the time and motivation.

after blowing away and reloading all the enb files several times, and even a skyrim refresh. there were no leftover files from anything at that point. Finally setting "iMultiSample=0" manually, it worked visually.

Then the ingame enb gui was not working for some of the settings on vanilla enb files. It worked on colors/lighting, but not on enhanced graphics. Repeat: I had to manually change the enbseries.ini files, save them, the full reload (not just config reload) enb in game to see the changes and it would show the values in the gui.

I've used compare/diff tools in the past on these, but frequently it's more trouble than just changing the 30 lines that need to be changed by hand.

The moral of the story: unless there's an ENB update that drastically affects performance, i'm not going to upgrade it again for skyrim.
