LavenderCat Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 So, I recently suffered not only a windows update, but also a game update. The Windows update made it so I had to restart ALL my games because it auto-enabled a feature that (for some reason) registered my games (particularly Fallout 4) as viruses. I got that sorted, finally; except my games were still ruined. So I re-installed all my mods and my games. Skyrim is doing fine, Fallout 4... not so much. So, I can load the game, get it to register that I want to play, but when it comes to playing the opening cinematic and getting into character creation, it's a no-go. It's hard to describe exactly what's going on, but basically it's like an eternal loading screen; but when I alt-tab or his "esc" the pause menu come up (I can't quit or anything, it just shows up). I've included the list of mods I have in case there happens to be something wrong there. I will say, I'm not used to Creation club content or anything like that, but I only got the modular military backpack one (The one by Fadingsignal). If I can get any help on where to possibly start, that would be a great help! I'm not looking forward to uninstalling and re-installing all my mods (But if nothing else works, I'll end up doing that). ACTIVEFallout4mods5-19-2023.docx

Then you should be able to mod the game safely. Now I am going to point out that you aren't exactly a novice modder with a 2017 start date on LL,, so this suggestion may seem to be patronizing or something you already have done. However, doing this will do a couple of things: It will verify that your issue is not with the vanilla game (if it starts) and second, will set up the neccessary .ini files for the mods to mess with. The inability to escape out of the menu suggests (to me) a call out to an interrupt and it is not finding that. Sometimes (in my experience) that is fixed by verifying a clean install via Steam. This also assumes you have a legal copy of the game.

Looking back, I've been doing that (running a vanilla game and then modding) for years without realizing it! I do have a legal copy of the game, I am scared of messing around with pirated games because then you run the risk of running into malicious code that only activates after days of playing, LOL. But thank you for the information! I learn something new everyday!
