Is it possible to apply Looksmenu overlays to NPCs, and save them?

The best option would be someway to do so in an esp or in a config file applied by looksmenu or some other mod. I want to give specific npcs specific overlays.

interesting idea,

you can use ROF (Random Overlay Framework) for this. (well this method would reduce the doubles)

here are the brief steps (there are a few and I might miss a couple) *also this will require some intermittent skills

 

0. Use Fo4edit

1. highlight the NPC you want to overlay and overwrite it into a new esp/esl that will be called "NEW MOD" from now on

2. add a keyword from ROF called "kw_SpellWorked" to the NPC in "NEW MOD" *this should cancel the managers from working

3. select the outfit of the chosen NPC and overwrite it into "NEW MOD"

4. find one of the armors from the overlay mods(from ROF) and make a new version of them and put it into "NEW MOD"

5. find the overlays you want to use and add them to the armor pieces (one per armor) *you will also need to change the keyword in each armor to a different one **this is to prevent double up's

6. add those armors to "NEW MOD" outfit

7. test with a new game or before you visited the chosen NPC

I decided to make an addon, that allows you to have certain overlays on a selected NPC.

and it turns out that I didn't really need to do that much work to make it work.

 

so it is most of the steps above but in a single armor piece (I am still deciding if I am going to do a spell version)

(however it is limited to 5 overlays, it was designed for layering overlays.)
