Oblivion.ini File

I was wondering if anyone has a list for each line in the oblivion.ini file on which line does what with a very detailed description on each one. if anyone has something like that or knows of one that would be great.

that's not really what i'm looking for. i'm looking for something that gives a very detailed explanation on each individual line. one that tells almost every difference for the ones that turn features on/off. i'm not really looking for something that only really tells what impact they can have on my fps.

Yeah I very much doubt you are going to find the information you are looking for. After all not all the lines used by the file are in the file to begin with.

To be honest and don't take this the wrong way, but if you don't know what it means then stay out of that file. One wrong edit and you will complete take out your game, if not worse.

How to file oblivion.ini I do not know what you're initial asking...

But as you mentioned having problems with fps, I suggest taking a look fondly on that Mod (Streamline)
I had many problems with fps in the beginning, I got to give up playing Oblivion for a few months so unmotivated with my fps.
I found this mod and tried to see what was happening, it worked very well for me
My game is very fast and I think I have over 200 mods installed

Well, you know what they say - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", but then again, this IS a moddable game. :P Editing the ini is not like open heart surgery or disabling a ticking time bomb.  It can easily be regenerated if you break something by deleting the ini. and then running the launcher. Yes, things can go terribly wrong and the game could crash, but PLEASE make a backup of BOTH your save games AND the .ini itself before going nuts, whatever you do. However, I don't think such an extensive guide exists. The tweakguide is a good place to start.  There is also UESP's info on ini editing. Googling for clues is your next bet, but realize most folks learn what does what through trial and error - and then fixing what they broke. ;).

I'd use a text editor like Notepad++ too as it formats things nicely for easier reading.

Also realize some mods like Darnified UI make edits to the .ini that may bork your game's look if regenerated.

I'm interested tho - is there anything in particular you want to know about, or are you just curious?

@Leonardo W

never said anything about having fps problems...

@Tee

the things that i mostly was searching for were the ones that turned shadows on or off along with lighting affects because i have a bad computer and have to play on the very low setting which disables those features.

i was using this when i had a pentium 4  3ghz  256 video C and 512 mb   and now with a better computer      you do not need to understand what exactly it does just follow  suggestions and what you think better     make a save of your ini before any change

and you can use EMB  old version  (for the new i do not know)  EMB.dev can save you some ressource systeme.

@kingkong

not to sound rude but i think you need to read my first post very very carefully. i'm not looking to increase fps or anything i just wanted to know what "each and every individual" line in the ini does.

Good grief!   :-/

Can no one use google anymore?

Link 1:  http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_8.html

Link 2:  http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Ini_Settings

Link 3:  https://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/stabilization/oblivion

If you want more detail than that, you need to copy the line code (example:  fGlobalTimeMultiplier) into google along with "oblivion" and search that way.

i have read your post correctly    but you want and need someone to explain you  what is the  file.ini  what each codeline makes and means and how to               good luck  with that one          (you might do some effort from your part).

@Grega I didn't even know of that last site. :D

@Mows - I don't know what entries to look at specifically, and unfortunately don't have a lot of free time now to investigate. I really don't know. BUT I'd suggest looking around [Display] or [bLIghtAttenuation]. OR, better yet - compare the lines between an ini that's set on regular mode and an ini that's set on low mode. See what gets changed and go from there. :D
