I would want to know how to make a head model for use in Oblivion. I wanna try make a custom head mesh for custom bodies that have poseable faces. What's the process making a head? (The full process)

 

Also can I use a custom head with facials as an apparel (Clothing/Armor covering the head) or must it be a custom race?

I don't know how to make a head.

 

But you can use a head mesh for new or vanilla races.
All human and elf vanilla races use the same head mesh. Beast races and orcs use own heads. Males and females use the same mesh.
You can use a new head mesh as replacer, put is the right vanilla folder.


Or you change the head mesh path in the race and use a new folder with your new head mesh.

 

If you create a custom race you set the head path to the head you want.

 

If you want different heads for male and female you must use the OBSE plugin Blockhead. Blockhead can set head, body meshes and head body textures and animations for a race a gender of a race, for only one NPC/player.

 

You can use a head mesh as helmet.

But using a head mesh as a helmet also let's it facepose and lipsync right? I've had it hard to understand head creation since they can be deformed/customized to the player's liking and also can emote. Can someone explain how to create a head mesh from scratch? Would be a good thing to know for me and everyone else.

You can't make it out of garbage, because. the number of model vertices is tied to a set of morphs, as far as I understand. You will have to redo all the morphs and I don't remember how to export them.

Of course helmets have no facepose and lipsync.

The game engine does not try to use face expressions and lipsync with a helmet.  But I never tied it. The head-helmet must have the tri files from the head nif to show face expressions  ( many helmets have  egm file ) ... but if the game then tries to animate the helmet?

Again , you can use Blockhead to give only the player or an NPC a new head, and egt egm tri files .

 

egt egm tri files : EGM is involved in deforming the shape, EGT alters the textures, and TRIs are used for expression and phoneme morphing.

 

Not sure if that Link is usefull when you make a new head.
