Guest endgameaddiction Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 As the title says. Apparently now when try to open FO3's GECK I get this fullscreen blank white with the sub windows behind it. Shortly after the sub windows appear over the fullscreen following up with a "Garden of Creation Kit has stopped working". I've reinstalled GECK and the problem still occurs. Has anyone had this happen before? Does anyone know the fix for this? Any help would be appreciated. Edit: This doesn't occur with FNV's GECK. I meant to put this in technical support if this can be moved over plz.
Odessa Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Do you mean it crashes as soon as you start geck, or it crashes when you try to open a plugin? If it is with a plugin it is likely that that has become corrupted. Unfortunately this sometimes happens; always make regular backup copies of any work you are doing. If you have a working backup (or make a new blank plugin if not) you can use TESNIP to copy/paste lost content from the broken version, you may have to do some trial an error to find the broken entry or maybe there won't even be one. If you mean it crashes on load without opening anything, my guess would be it must be something in a settings file, which I think is in 'My Documents' or somewhere (theres that one you modify to allow multiple masters and such)- this would explain why reinstalling doesn't do anything

But the problem was my GECKprefs.ini file being altered the moment I launched FO3, closed it and tried to open GECK again. My theory concluded it was a text editor I installed a week before this happened. Someone told me it's the new ENB binary 0.194. I can't back him up on that but after uninstalling the text editor, I never got a problem with GECK anymore. So I have GECK working normal again for a little over a week now. I apologize for the late response but nevertheless thank you for responding. -------------------------------------------------- UPDATED! 12/14/2013 The issue has been resolved for a long time now. I didn't come back to confirm this, so I've decided to update my last post so that those that run into same problems may know the cause. I apologize for the delay. ENB Binary 0.194 and 0.216 both has bugs that caused GECK to CTD the moment you launch it. During the time when I found out, I decided to downgrade to 0.190 in the mean time. Right now I currently use ENB Binary 0.232 and it has no bugs with the GECK. If by any chance this happens to you in the near future with a later version, Try removing the d3d9.dll and use an older version to make sure that is the cause. There are two alternatives to this. 1. You could move the d3d9.dll from your game directory to your desktop in the mean time while you are trying to work in GECK. Just paste it back to your directory when you are done before launching your game. 2. Or do what I used to do and just use an older version until there is a fix within a new version. Because I spend a lot of time in GECK I find this option to be more essential for me as I do not have to constantly cut n paste the d3d9.dll back and forth all the time.
