katrina.balanchuk Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 (edited) Started out with vanilla weather. It was not bad, but the very frequent rainstorms bothered me. And my NPCs always out in the rain anyway. Plus it hampered what you could see, in a way I felt a real rainstorm would not. So I got simply better weathers v 9 Everything there was clearer and it included the no rad storms option (I dont belive radstorms are either form lore or from science something that should be in there) But the nights were so dark. Couldnt see a thing!, even though I set one of the "brighter nights" toggles during install options. Using the helmet lamp would just cut out a small swath of light and the pipboy light was only alittle better (and u had t be out of power armor!). I know creatures in this game can see in the dark and a healthy night adapted human eye can see quite well at night. So next I went to Vivid weathers. Loved the variety of weather and it was indeed vivid. And you could see at night just fine like you would real world. A nice rainstorm makes for good atmosphere sometimes and the rainstorms werre good and not as abrupt as in vanilla. But the radstorms came back with a vengenace and at a for my taste, too great frequency. Often it seems I would be in the middle of a conversation and a radstorm started. Do a fast travel somewhere anywhere, bam radstorm. And the ONLY snow was a rad storm snow too!!!!! Very annoying, i love a winter wonderland but I couldnt use it, because it always came down as silly radiation snow and my rad meter would contantly tick annoyingly . So eventually I unistalled Vivid weathers and replaced it with; NAC-X weather. Loved the change by the seasons, even though I only had it on a relaitively short time. The rain was very well done, even better than Vivid weathers. Rain noises on roofs were also very immersive. Didnt mind the rain on here the way I did with vanilla because the rain was just so well done. Was happy with it and resolved to keep it until 30 minutes into gameplay I noticed when I turned my head quickly it seemed like there was a square TV screen over my face filtering something, like one of those "eye saver" screens that were popular on TVs for a while. And it lagged when I turn my head quickly. As if I carried a somewhat laggy screen in front of my face like heavy ill fitting sunglasses. I played with the field of view adjusters but to no luck. Weird, annoying and unimmersive. I never toggled any "sunglasses" toggle which is the only explanation I would have. So I unstalled it and now I am back to : Simply better weathers but took great care to make sure my "bright nights" toggle "took". and indeed my nights are navigable now. katrina.balanchuk Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 PS: Moon is quite large in simply better weathers:
steelpanther24 Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Thanks for the rundown. I need to move to another weather simulator, as I prefer my nights to be super dangerous (i.e. you should follow Piper's advice "Sun goes down, Crazies come out"). 1

I now have winter with me - I'm curious how it behaves together https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/41449?tab=description

katrina.balanchuk Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 PS: Also I noticed my fps seems just a bit smoother at times with simply better weathers. But that cna be an illusion I am not 100% on that. I did see the first "combat goes to blackscreen but stays in game" visual error in a long time. So hopefully it is not a sign of things to come
katrina.balanchuk Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 (edited) PS: It would be nice ot have a weather mod without an single negtive side effects. All of them so far seem to have one and i find msyelf trying to decide which one to accept. I ge tit that dark dangerous night are interesting... but the human eye when fully adapted to the nigth sees wuite well at night. the only exception is a moonless night in the woods. Now that is scary I would one would do nice rains like NAC-X and change of seasons like NAC X but without weird visual side effects when turning head fast and nights that make sense in how you can see and no more rad storms outside the glowing sea. I could go back to vanilla weather too with the no radstorms outside glowing sea mod added. (NAC-X has that as a feature during install and another one does too) Mybe there is a pacth fo that weird sunglass like effect. or i can try vivid weathers again and add the "no radstorms" mod. I deleted about 20 mods yesterday to get frusther away from my plug in limit Edited January 29, 2023 by katrina.balanchuk
katrina.balanchuk Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 I decided to uninstall simple better weathers and try NACX again since I liked so many of its features . there is an addtional MCM control you can donwlaod (and I now did) maybe that will help me get rid of the odd effect i noticed
Miauzi Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Vor 1 Stunde sagte katrina.balanchuk: Vielen Dank für den Link, ich kann anscheinend nie ein schönes Winterland bekommen, egal welches dieser Wetter ich benutze. because that cannot be done with a weather mod but only with a landscape mod You can then add a suitable weather mod to this changed landscape (see requirements for the mod in its description) 1
katrina.balanchuk Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 I will have to get a weather landscape then

It has a couple extra requirements too. Right now I will see how i like it the way it is now and then if I have the mod spots open I may well download that and add it.
