How to modify Owner-san's skin color?

Recommended Posts

Given that this game is supposed to be for self-insertion, I'm curious about what file would need to change for owner-san's skin tone to something that'd better match one's own. Think Sayuri's or Lobelia's introduction scenes. Seems in-engine so I envision this concept to be doable.

If a mod already exists for it, great, but otherwise, is there a hash and/or text file we can target and maybe modify? I wouldn't be experienced at creating the mod myself so I'm looking for advice here.

I thought about this too, I loaded the scene in Blender and it works like any other skin mod since owner-san is just a pair of some girl's arms.

Here are the hashes for the Steam/Global version, I added Patty and Lisa's skins to see the difference in Sayuri's episode. If it's a different hash for every episode I can't find those cause I sadly don't have Lobelia.

let me know if you have any questions about swapping/editing body textures

Nice! Thanks! Can you tell me more about how to maybe open this .dds file for myself in an application like GIMP (or some other recommendation)? As I googled how to install a GIMP plugin for DDS files for instance, I couldn't seem to get it compatible all the same.

Weird, the GIMP plugin didn't work for me either, and I didn't find any solution. Your alternatives (that I know are reliable since me and other modders work with them) are paint.net and photoshop.

By the way, I was asked if it's possible to shorten owner's nails, I just learnt to mod meshes but it should be easy enough, so I will look into it.

Hopefully I can put together an entire mod with different skin tones and longer and shorter nails so we can all be owner ?

To open DDS files in Photoshop you need this plugin, then make sure you always save with these settings from HokageSama's tutorial (wich has some more in depth info and is how I started modding)

intel salvar dds.png

For paint.net you can download the pack krunkDunk made for his Honoka mesh mod:

HON new body and skin v2.zip

And I imagine the steps for saving in paint are the same!

Also always make sure to flatten the image (no transparency) if that's how the original texture you're editing was such as with skins, and keeping the transparency on textures that originally had transparency, like some clothes. When I open a dds, by rule I always choose "Load transparency as Alpha Layer" because most textures use that, if it's transparent, just close it and open it again without checking that box.

As for previeweing the dds files themselves without having to open them, I don't know of a good program, but face and skin textures are recognizable enough.

(I'll just clarify that to extract any textures you need to do a frame analysis dump of the game in case that's something you wanna try later on.)

Spoiler

Open your d3dx.ini and find this:

[Hunting]

; 0: Release mode is with shader hunting disabled, optimized for speed.
; 1: Hunting mode enabled
; 2: Hunting mode "soft disabled" - can be turned on via the toggle_hunting key
hunting=0

If hunting is set to zero like above, change it to 2 and restart the game, then in the virtual keyboard press 0 and you'll see some numbers & "stereo disabled" on the bottom, this is hunting mode. To dump every texture currently present in the frame, press F8, a folder will appear in the main DOAXVV folder. Modding tutorials further explain if you're looking to get into making an ini and finding hashes, as well as the d3dx.ini itself.

Thanks. I hope we're able to get a diverse mod for this going. I don't own photoshop, so unfortunately, I guess I'm at the limit of how I could possibly help.

I hope you'll be able to get this mod idea going without such assistance.

I suppose all I can do is provide a quick sampling of skin tones (that I quick searched via Google) to inspire a range you could target that should cover most bases. Might I suggest also for the darkest of skin tones.

Thanks. I'm sure the mod will be well received, being that this is the internet and all and thus, Owner-san is going to take the tone of everyone.

I'm having trouble with the nails, Blender object transformation is a little advanced for me right now, sorry. But here's the skin mod.

Owner_skintone_[SLDoMopi].rar

Just follow the instructions in the info. There's 7 textures from darkest to lightest.

I also added instructions to edit the nail color separately.

I fixed the game's oversight of dark nails and palms, of course my monitor's settings and eyes are different from everyone else's but hopefully it's good and I didn't leave anyone out, I'm game to add more colors but I only have so much time for the owner's hand to flash on the screen to test each one so for now I heavily recommend editing to make it really yours, especially since I can only do mods in 1920 and not 4K.

I quote-replied to your off topic question with the link to the doa5 modding forum at the end of my reply bud

This has nothing to do with doa 5 last round at all, why did you post that? Please do tell why that those pictures have no input on doa at all.

I hope this clears up confusion.

Woah! It works? Kinda. Sorta. Something tells me there's a second set of arms they use for owner-san. Let me give you the .gif.

oh this sucks :( as I said Lobelia and any girl after are the girls I'm missing, so I can't do a frame analysis dump to find the hashes, and one of this scene would be about 4GB if you were to send it over. But if you want to do that, send me a message and I'll give you the steps to do it so I can add those arms to the mod (or alternatively how to do it yourself in blender which is kind of pretty easy if you have a fast pc)

I dont seem to have this problem (playing on DMM). All cutscenes keep the color change without issue. Have tried scenes with Lobelia, Patty, Tsukushi and Sayuri; all work ?

Ever make any progress on the nails?

I'm really sorry, but the nails will have to be modded by someone more advanced. I tried to get it working day on day off, to have in time before releasing the fix, but without merging up the bone poses, and it doesn't work. If I try to merge the poses I get an error I hadn't gotten before "matched multiple bones in the destination" and it deforms the arms of course, the error seems to mean owner-san's body is made differently from the rest in this game and therefore out of my field, this was a thing in DOA5 so maybe that's where his body was taken from, since despite how different the lighting makes the girls look, all these models are the exact ones from DOA6 and Last Round

But I'm glad to hear about that. I figured it wasn't a problem for everybody, especially because both arms are the same mesh, not two separate objects. I can't really pinpoint what causes texture jumping because it's not dependent on resolution, quality or game version. For me it only happens with modded SSR costume textures if two girls are present wearing it (two different objects sharing a texture), but for others it happens with a single object....

Here's the fix for those having texture problems in episodes like Lobelia's where both arms don't change. You can always find both the original and this mod in my thread.

@DaBlackHeartMan as asd418570484 pointed out, this scene can't be edited because it's a pre-rendered video, that's the reason her tan/makeup doesn't change either. I did a frameanalysis of this scene just in case, and indeed all I got is a screenshot of said video, sorry

(unrelated to this, I wonder if there's a way to extract these as a video format?)

Gotcha, thanks for letting me know! And thanks for the mod itself! It works for me in the other scenes mentioned here.
