Obviously it's not my problem, but a friend of mine isn't able to lock into LL.

Let me quote his description of the problem:

Tell them that using login does nothing at all, and using sign in just tells me "You don't have permission for that!", but it shows my profile icon at the top left of the screen, as if I were signed in, but it disappears if I click any other link. Say I turned off my antivirus, but it didn't help, and that this all started when I had Geek Squad tune my PC. Finally, let them know that I can still sign in to ANY other site, just like before. Just not LL!

He already asked Ashal for help, but he didn't found anything wrong, so the error is on my friend's end. Since he isn't able to do itself, I made this thread for him to ask if anyone entcountered something similar and may have a few ideas on how to solve this problem.

As a little motivation, here are some warm words he also mentioned:

Good thing they're all geniouses over there. geek.gif If anyone knows the answers, it's LL modders.

Hopefully you can help my friend to come back to mod here on LL.

Make sure that he is trying to view the main page when he logs in. Try cleaning out the browser cache, cookies or even trying a new browser.

He may need to add LoversLab to his host file as well, but were not at that stage yet.

How long has he/she been unable to sign in for?

What's your friend's username?

I actually am not quite sure, I got his cry for help on nexus a few days ago, so probably it's about 4 or 5 days.

AwfulArchdemon.

ahh ok, with you now :) So Ashal can login to it but not AwfulArchdemon.

OK let me just go back side and ask Ark, Currently at a cafe getting a drink and some food. Ark's in the hospital at the moment but I know for a fact he had issues with this in the past.

Be back in like 20mins, by that time visiting hours will be over.

Right he said to do the following in the order shown below. With any luck that will clear the issue as it restarts everything.

Clear the browser cache:

Firefox

Chrome

Could not find the internet explorer one.

Configure the HOSTS file:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Enter run in the Start menu search field.
  3. Right-click run and choose "Run as Administrator"
  4. Type in %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  5. It will ask what to open it with, choose Notepad.
  6. Add LoversLab like it is shown below in the screenshot

post-91000-0-74123800-1375813505_thumb.jpg

     7. Save the file. If it does not save then you are not using administrator mode.

Clear the DNS

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Enter cmd in the Start menu search field.
  3. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  4. Type the following command and press Enter: ipconfig /flushdns
  5. If the command was successful, you will see the following message:
Windows IP configuration successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Restart the router:

  1. Turn the router on and off again.

Restart PC:

  1. Restart the PC, after the router finishes rebooting or you can restart the PC while the router is restarting.

it might be stupid from my part to say this but he may have a firewall exclusion or a parental control set up if what was said above does not fonction try to see if the url or ip pages associat to LL pages are excluded or locked in the firewall or other protection software.

Sorry if this is irrelevant, but I was having issue's somewhat like this with another site, the fix for it was to just enter the login URL manually.

Sorry if that doesn't help, other than that; try using something more powerful to clear your caches(CCleaner, Disk defrag etc), you could reinstall your browser. Further more, you could ask what was done to the computer by Geek Squad.

Side note: Can he log into another account from that computer, or is it just his?

AAAAAAAAWW YEEEEEAHHH!!! It only took me TWO WEEKS, but I'm finally back, baby! I want to take this time to thank:

ascension

Ark of Truth

kingkong

Walrus

Ashal

And last, but not least... (drumroll please) . . . THULAS!!!

You are that dude!

I'll not be taking LL for granted, that's for damn sure!

It turned out that IE 10's "protected search" was preventing me from logging in. Just this site. Even after deactivating it. wtf? Soooo, if anyone else out there has this happen to them, that might be the cause. Thanks again, everyone! I bought margaritas to celebrate! (seriously)
