Windows update breaking Mod Organizer FNIS

Recommended Posts

Ever since my windows updated I frequently get error 56 and error 79 or whatever errors it actually is, about the system not being able to find the skeleton or the Skyrim/data/tools/fnis_generator.

I have been adding tons of folder exclusion in virus/threat protection. And I have turned of the real time protection. The latter is a "temporary fix" but then it turns itself back on and FNIS breaks again.

I have excluded all mod organizer files and Skyrim files, but this keeps F*cking happening and I want it fixed. Anyone know what I can do?

Probably the option File Redirection can solve all the problems.

File Redirection. This allows you to redirect all relevant FNIS generated files into a folder outside Skyrim\Data (to support Vortex/MO profiles). It includes all files that change the Skyrim animation functionality. FNIS temporary files and logs will still be written to the regular places (under data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users). To use this functionality, the following parameter needs to be defined (FNIS.ini, or command line)

  • RedirectFiles=<folder outside of Skyrim\Data> e.g. RedirectFiles=D:\FNIS_Redirect

To activate File Redirection, you need to set the patch for "File Redirection (Vortex/MO profiles support)". If you start FNIS from command line, this patch is automatically implied. To see how this can be used together with your actual mod manager, refer to your mod manager's documentation.

The problem is that I don't think redirecting helps. Prior to the windows update things worked fine. But even after excluding the folders the files are going to, it's like windows sees the generator as a F*cking virus or something.

If I say that using FSNIS Redirect is "probably" the solution, that's because it is "probably" the solution. Please, try it instead of saying "I don't think redirecting helps".
If you try it and it does NOT solve the problem, then FNIS Redirect is not a solution for you but for other users IT IS THE SOLUTION.

I also see people saying that "Running FNIS in Win 7 compatibility mode fixes the problem" is another thing that everyone who has this problem can try.
