No way will I download a Fallout 4 redux version (whatever you want to call it) if it risks breaking my load order. If I had to guess, the ONLY reason Fallout 4 is still relevant in the gaming space is because of mod authors working tirelessly to keep Fallout 4 worth replaying.

The vanilla version is just...not worth playing and the Creation Club stuff is so meh.

I'm on playthrough number 10 maybe and without all the great weapons (WarfightersWorkshop comes to mind), clothing (Vtaw, anyone?) and sex mods (companion Ivy is so next level amazing in every way, I still can't believe it's possible to make a mod like her but playing is believing - not just cuz of the sex or porn mags but just how well she is blended into the game especially during cutscenes and her off hand remarks like "fuck those Brotherhood cunts" are hilarious).

Unless Bethesda does the right thing and ensures that any new version is FULLY compatible with mods, especially the best mods out there that we all run, I'm out. That would be such a slap in the face to the great mod author work that has Bethesda is no doubt making tons of money from since folks keep buying the game, apparently.

Look we all know this isn't going to happen.

I am interested to see if they can make downtown Boston not run like shit. And what the tradeoff will be vs staying on the current edition.

Now if they really want to make some $ start releasing some of those 76 assets in the CC. Especially the creatures.

Hmm, I wonder if Toddy will make it like AE and try to ram it down people's throats instead of being optional.

That reminds me: check that Steam doesn't auto update my FO4. I'll freeze v1.163 (I think that's what I'm running) in carbonite if I have to to keep my beloved load order, esp my top 200 mods.

Maybe it will, maybe it it will break mods on purpose, maybe it won't matter at all. I don't know. All I can do is vote with my money, and if it's reported that it will break my load order, I can only vote with my money.

I'm maybe not as cynical. Fuck with my Fallout 4, I won't buy another Bethesda game, especially after the abomination that FO76 is. Such potential, spoiled. There was imo absolutely no reason to make it an online game devoid of a single player campaign worth playing. At least do it like GTA V did and let me choose.

For me, Fallout is all about me. It's my world, my sandbox/toybox and I want it the way I want it. I want great NPC interactions, karma system (thanks, Flashy(JoeR)!), all that stuff. If I want to import modern weapons (because the pipe weapons are, well, you know) or other things that  make a little more sense for a Boston 200 years after the event (as the Back Bay Players point out - it's amazing what you can accomplish with a broom and a little elbow grease), then so be it.

Yep, this is the hill I'll die on: Fallout is best as a single player experience and further development should focus on making that experience richer.

End of rant, thanks for reading. For your troubles, here's a terminal. (my mods are real life builds of things in the Fallout world)

It could be bad if it breaks out mods.

but if it doesnt... my monitor is 4k and I would love to use it properly without rust faces.

Right now I dont have that issue ( anymore)

Have you tried this? I think at about 5:35 of the video is one way to fix rust faces. I don't have them in my playthrough, I did do this a year or so ago.

This video had a nice, optimistic way to look at the situation.

TL,DR: It's an update, not a new version you have to pay for. Are people gonna leave, like what happened with Skyrim? Probably; maybe not as many, but still some. Are some people gonna stay? Most likely. Are new people gonna come in? It's always possible. Will the newbies have great guidance from the people who stayed and great tools left behind by those who dipped? Absolutely. Will ports of the old mods happen? Yes.

And just look at other games with huge modding communities (Stellaris, Space Engineers, and Minecraft being big examples). If they abandoned ship after every single update, there'd be no more modders for those games. One update after seven years with the aim of "fixing bugs" and making the game look prettier shouldn't divide an entire community like it does with Bethesda modding communities. Says the newbie.

newbie?

Then I say as an "old boy" (I've been there since "Morrowind" or "Fallout-3"):
The fact that this game works at all - i.e. is playable - is not due to the game studio!
But to hundreds of mod authors who, in years of UNPAID free time work, have eliminated the thousands of errors in the original game and, in doing so, had unlocked a good 10% of "content" (which the studio had deleted) again.
Purely the base game from its content?
I wouldn't be interested anymore after a year.

The original game is at most a "scaffolding" where you first have to install the "community patch" so that something works at all.
And of my playable content, the original game has only 10% - the rest was created by mod authors!

So what brings the new and great of "Bug-Shit-esda"?
The destruction of 90% of my game content!

troubleshooting?
Has this "bude" never come - they always left it to the volunteers from the mod community!

You announce bug fixes - but what happens?
for an (allegedly) fixed bug, an average of 5-10 new ones are added.
I experienced that with TESO almost every 2 weeks - because there no mod authors could clean up the base game because of the online game.

And it will work like it did with Skyrim...
.. I e.g. set my STEAM to "offline" so that my modded SE is not "switched up" to AE.
I don't really care if something runs better with AE - 70% of my mods are never changed to AE - partly because the mod authors haven't worked for years...
..but their mods still work 99% of the time.

But please - just run after the "carrot" that was hung on a long string in front of you - nobody will stop you.

And if the graphics are better then...
..honestly - if graphic quality matters to me - then I look at an anime from Japan or a filmed comic from Pixar or Disney

Oh boy, here we go.

The quote in your post showed what I can only assume to be German, or a language of Germanic decent. So something might have been lost in translation.

But, to clarify, I'm not trying to White Knight for Bethesda. They have their problems, most assuredly. I'm just saying that giving up on a game because of a random update is quitter talk, and no modding community ever got big by quitting every time a mod was broken by an update.

When it comes to in-house Fallout (3 & 4 specifically), I wouldn't expect you to. For as much as I personally like the stories of a child reconnecting with their father, or a parent braving the unknown for the sake of their missing child, I can admit that the execution doesn't hold up after more than three plays, at most. Once you experience every version of those twists, it becomes boring and you seek something else. That's normal.

In terms of community patches, that's why you should never play a game on Day 1, especially in the age of "well, we can patch it later". When it comes to another notoriously buggy franchise I like, I always wait until all the DLC is out; that way I know that the majority of game-breaking problems will have been dealt with by the time I get into it.

And it's awesome that you chose to support independent creators who could one day go on to make their own game! But that doesn't mean you have to put down the people that constructed the "scaffolding", as you put it. If you really felt like Bethesda was a bad company, you wouldn't have given them your money to begin with.

And this is where you start losing any credibility, in my eyes. Yes, I'll meme about "Bugesda" and how "It Just Works" when in casual conversation, but when having a serious discussion I'll at least give them the proper respect of saying their name right!

I...I don't know what "bude" is. That's either a spelling error you didn't catch, or a problem with any automatic translation the website is running on the back end.

And, as I said, Bethesda has their problems: this being one of them. It's where the whole "It Just Works" meme comes from. Because Todd Howard and whoever else is in charge of these games takes the modders for granted and forces them to make any Day 1 fixes. That is a problem that should be addressed, no doubt, no argument.

3 hours ago, Miauzi said:

That's why I put "fixing bugs" in quotation marks. And this isn't exactly a problem exclusive to Bethesda. Bethesda is just the most lazy about it.

That's why I haven't played TESO or 76 yet. I hear that TESO and 76 are good now, but I don't trust either game to hold up for the first few weeks after an update. Not to mention that I already have other online games to fill that void.

...Anniversary Edition is 20USD DLC on Steam. I just now installed SE on my computer for the first time, and I wasn't forced to take on AE. That might be different where you live, but I can only speak from my own experience in that regard.

Okay? Then just don't buy the AE upgrade. It's that simple. If you don't buy AE, nothing will break.

And this is where you lost any credibility you had remaining after the "Bug-Shit-esda" comment. So much so that I feel no need to reply to anything else you say. Because you're obviously crafting your online persona around being a Bethesda hater that attacks people who show even the slightest hint of optimism, even though you're still going to buy and play whatever they put out next because you're just an armchair anti that talks a big game but doesn't have the spine to back it up.

So while you sit there whining and moaning and complaining, I'm going to make due with the hand I was dealt. And if you choose not to do the same, then sucks to be you.

Funny - it doesn't cost me anything?
I wonder why?

Because there is something that you either didn't notice or want to sell other users as stupid!!

The circumstance I described has been affecting countless users since the appearance of AE...

..why did mod authors develop a "downgrade"?

They hypocritically introduce themselves as a "newcomer" - but their text contains knowledge that suggests years of dealing with the game series.

So try to fool the community - I consider that deeply shabby

If there was a game update that enables AE when bought, that might be what you're referring to. But I wouldn't know, as I have not been in TES & Fallout's modding communities specifically for very long.

And I consider you a foolish anti. The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.

I've lurked around other modding communities before. And one thing I always notice is that, at some point or another, an update will come along that breaks a lot of mods. But things eventually get updated, and the status quo resumes. Why should it not be the same with Elder Scrolls & Fallout?

So believe what you will. I'm enacting my right as an Internet user to filter out your vitriol. I hope you find a way to be happy with your sad, sad life. Bye bye!

Also glaube, was du willst.

Oh ha - what a big mighty badaboom

When mods have not been maintained by their authors for years...
..who please should then port it to a new game version?

It shows that they really have ZERO plan from a mod community...

..there are dozens of mods on LL that you can still download - which still work with Skyrim LE or SE, for example - but the authors haven't been around for YEARS.

So who is going to make these mods work for AE?

Mod authors have something they have a "codex" - ever heard or read about it...
... that put terms like "copyright" or the like in it.
Nobody will change a mod WITHOUT the consent of the creator of the mod.

And it seems that such things are alien to you or you deliberately ignore them because it doesn't fit into your sham-optimistic drivel.

So - have fun ignoring reality.

You can keep your current version by simply disabling steam auto updates?

Set the steam manifest for the game to read-only is better. Better still, keep copies of the exe and ba2 files out of the game folder.

Disabling updates doesn't work reliably for many people.

You realize all this is speculation, everyone's getting their knickers in a twist about something that is "suppose" to happen next year. How many of you use the UFO4 patch? all of you? did it make the game unmoddable or crash your load order? What it says is they're basically going to do the fixes that UFO4 patch did and streamline the code to work with next gen systems. That and update the graphics to 4k. They already released a hi res pack that was shit so hopefully their going to fix the fucking thing. I doubt it will fuck up the current mods except maybe those that add to the functionality of the game engine, like fo4se and I'm pretty sure the guys that are doing those types of mod won't have any problem adapting them to work with  the new engine upgrades. So relax, you can always do a backup of your current load (just before the update drops) and then over-write the new game with it if it fucks stuff up.

It never hurts to have a backup. Even if it's just another annoying CC update that breaks all the F4SE mods for a week, it's still useful to be able to revert.

How do I "freeze" my Fallout 4 version? :)

In the app under settings, change it to only update during no specified time and never launching the game from Steam, I think? Or is it "only update when I launch the game" option and only launching from F4SE/MO2. At least I think it works, I don't honestly know a ton about it. Mine hasn't updated anything without my express permission in ages but hopefully they don't force an update down my throat.

Like I say, they break my load order, I stop playing because vanilla FO4 simply isn't a good game compared to a zillion other games out there, IMO.
