what causes my companions faces turning into black?

This is, in my admittedly limited troubleshooting experience, caused by a mod conflict between 2+ mods trying to change the same NPC. If you use FO4Edit or a similar tool, you can go into NPC records and see what's causing the problem. Fixing it comes down to removing a problematic mod, changing the load order, or downloading a patch/making your own.

The cause is typically higher resolution faces being applied incorrectly.     One temp fix is to save often and go back to a save that doesn't have black face.  A more permanent fix is to opt for only all 4k, 2k, or 1k faces.   Without a patch (one that you write), you will have to accept a chance of this happening.

If you want to dig deeper, look here, and don't just install it.   Read and understand what is causing this, otherwise, you may not fix the issue.

Thanks a lot , there is a lot to learn with modding , I am having lots of bugs with all the mods installed lol

one mistake people new to the modding scene is going too fast, installing all the mods they want in one setting, then running the game.  Second issue is that some people fail to check the sub requirements for the required mods to support the mod you are wanting to load.   Loading only a few (and their sub requirements) allow you to test and trouble shoot much better, because there are fewer mods that can be suspect.

I can tell you running 299 mods took me a while to set up but now, my FO4 world is gritty, deadly, and sexy.  A perfect (for me) playground to build great stories.    FO4 remains "fresh" because of all these mods and that means more fun for me.     That is the object after all.

It happend to me. I even installed 2 patches and is about 80% fixed.

It is under control now, does not happen to character and most NPCs but happens to some NPCs still.

but not enough to be an issue anymore.

Still I would like it gone completely but there are just too many mods on the game right now and ot find out which one causes it..

And the mods I suspect are involved in making the preset I am using.

Also I have white hair for 40% of new female NPCs.

sometimes one of my companion or NPCs face skin will turn into black but not the body skin, do you guys have any idea what could cause this

This is a known issue with fallout 4, if you do a google search for "fallout 4 black face bug" you'll usually end up with a link to nexus mods Black face bug fix, I use it and it clears up 95% of the black face issue. Be sure to read the description page! If you exit to the main menu then go back into a saved game you often get the black face. Simply reload the SAME save from within the game and it will usually fix the black face. It's best if you want to switch saves to exit to the desktop and re-enter the game from there to avoid the bug.
