katrina.balanchuk Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Their figures are very nice but I like to rescue them and bring them to the menfolk in my settlement but many of their faces are a bit too butch.

If the said raiders are generic ones, you should be able to modify them pretty easily using looksmenu. Of course it's best to have a lot of pre-installed looksmenu presets to get a better set to choose from - additional hair styles, face features, tatoos, body shapes, etc. There are also some mods aimed at giving you more variety of raiders, pretty much the same as the mods which do the same for settlers. Some of the presets there may have some dependencies that you have to install before using them, such as aforementioned additions to looksmenu, but if you're serious about making your NPCs look beter overall, you probably have the most important pieces already installed anyway. 1

But the captives of the raiders are premade right? So you say I can manipulate their looks individually? This is what I am asking about how? Or is there a "prettier raiders captives" download anywhere? I am playing a male character and I want him to have some fun from rescuing these girls, also the menfolks at Sanctuary are short of girls.

Ah I see, sorry I had a little "hey this raider looks nice, let's convince her to come with me to my settlement" kind of moment there, but I guess their actual captives might work the same actually. I never bothered with the captives, I was always more interested in female raiders, especially that outrageously small amount of female raiders who are actual gang leaders with own name. But yeah, if the captives can be hired as settlers, then I guess they are some generic NPCs that should be safe to modify through looksmenu. As for the mod for more presets for captives, I don't know of any. If they share the same properties with settlers though, the mod which adds more variety to settlers should do the trick, but it's just a wild guess. Edited August 31, 2022 by MrFuturehope
katrina.balanchuk Posted August 31, 2022 Author Posted August 31, 2022 Is there a link that talks about how to modify NPCs through looks menu? I only know tilde SLM 14 to modify myself.

I just do it like this: I aim at the NPC I want to change, go to console, and while in the console I click on the said NPC which I want to change to get their ID (the ID should show in the top middle part of the console when you do that), and then I type slm and press enter. Getting their ID first is necessary to let the game know that it is not the player character, but an NPC from the ID you want to modify. The changes should stay as long as you save the game with these modifications and play from there without going back to previous game saves, but then again you should keep in mind that some NPCs, especially some main characters can't be modified so easily. If you notice that something is wrong, like you're trying to modify their face features or hair, stuff like that and nothing happens, this is usually a sign that it's better to not mess with the look of that particular NPC using this way. On the bright side, there may be mods that modify that NPC and those are usually fine to use (as long as they are not in conflict with other mods, ugh...). Edited August 31, 2022 by MrFuturehope 1

When you go to console do you mean go tilde? So then I go enter SLM in tilde menu and the NPC ID?

By aiming, I mean moving the game camera using mouse (or a game controller, if that's what you're using) in the direction of the NPC, so that I can see that NPC on my game screen. Once that's done, I open up the in-game console, which is done by the tilde key by default, so yes, if that key opens up the game console for you (the place where you can type game commands like game cheats or in our case "slm" which opens the looks menu), and while that in-game console is open, you can move your cursor around the game screen, so that's when you move your cursor at the NPC you wish to modify, click on it using the left mouse button (not sure which button it is on a game controller, sorry, but I would guess it's the same button as the button that you use to attack enemies, at least that's the default settings when using a mouse) and once you successfully click on that NPC, you should see their ID written in the top middle part of the in-game console. Once the ID shows up there, you can freely type the "slm" command (without quotes) and confirm the command by pressing enter. If you did it right, you should see the looks menu which will allow you to modify the look of the NPC that corresponds to that ID we got in the previous step. I hope that makes sense. 1

Wow, I had no idea that possible! As long as we are on a roll: ? - I download other presets from time to time and they never show up on my looksmenu: tilde, SLM 14, then open menu as if doing character creation for looks, then open presets.. Its always been the same presets ever since i started the game, -Any presets I download never show up in the menu even though I checked that I have the required mods on the game. Am I doing something wrong? Edited August 31, 2022 by katrina.balanchuk
katrina.balanchuk Posted August 31, 2022 Author Posted August 31, 2022 (edited) PS: I am actually quite satisfied with the looks of my females profile. Very close to me when I was in college 25 years ago only better. I used Mera preset, then Chestnut hair in pony tail plus very blue eyes and subtract blemishes, and deep dark red lipstick. Also, make sure to type just "slm", and not "slm 14", because by adding "14", you're probably overriding the ID of the NPC, although I'm not 100% sure about it, just to be safe try to avoid that when modifying NPCs instead of your player character. As for the reasons why you don't see the installed presets, it's been a while since I played with these things, so unfortunately I can't think of anything special that would be worth checking in attempt to track down what's causing that problem here. Just a couple of general ideas that come to mind: If I remember right, some presets were only applicable for the player character and some could be applied on NPCs too, which would explain a specific problem that some presets don't show up when modifying the look of an NPC, if that's what's happening in your case at all. Also, maybe you're still missing some dependencies (other mods required by those presets) which are missing, that would explain missing presets too. Make sure you have the compatible version of Looks menu mod installed and check out the requirements for your presets, maybe there's a mod or two that you're still missing. 1

Pretty nice character, but what's up with the pinky-purple sky? Just to make sure, is that intentional? Because, well while it looks kinda psychedelic and dreamy, unfortunately it also kinda looks like some missing textures in the sky, which could be a hint of some serious problems with the mods loaded into the game. Particularly mods that modify the game graphics / textures in some way. But maybe I'm completely wrong and this is an actual mod in which case I apologize in advance. It's just that I've never seen anything like it and being considered normal state. 1

I am just glad when the game runs w/o CTD too often I
