Help?! moved files to bigger SSD, now game ctd when I run through MO2

What I had working properly last week was, a pre update version of SE in a folder on a seperate ssd outside of steam. So I had d:\skyrim\game containing a complete copy of the game folder of the version before the AE shift messed a bunch of mods, d:\skyrim\MO2 with mod organizer in it, and all the other tools also in d:\skyrim. I changed the windows registry so the game points at d:\skyrim\game

all of this was running fine, but the ssd was starting to fill up because mods, so I bought a bigger one and copied everything across, and took the old one out, so the new one is d: now. but skyrim CTDs when I run it through mod organizer, when I click start new game, even with all mods disabled. I can run the game from the d:\skyrim\game folder by clicking skyrim.exe and that goes fine, but every time though MO2 is ctd. I have obviously done something or forgotten something but I cant think what it is. Can anyone tell me what to look at?

Be sure to update your directories in MO2/Tools/Settings/Paths tab.  MO2 has no clue where the game is so it crashes.

It should all have been in the same place, I took the old drive out so the new one was the same drive letter and structure, just more empty space.

Anyway I've had a blitz on it last night and basically by reinstalling... running the unoffocial rollback... changing every windows security settings in the world... and idk what else.... it looks like it might work now! I need to play a bit to make sure. This was a lot more anguish than I deserved for a simple swap!
