skyrimkevin Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Hello, I am having an issue with my Skyrim and I've tried everything that I know of, but none are working. I haven't posted here yet, so apologies if I'm missing any information, I'll try to include everything that I can. 1. I have Skyrim, all DLCs, Nexus Mod Manager, SKSE (updated to current), FNIS (updated to current), BOSS, Wrye Bash, and TESVEDIT (although I don't really know how to use it without messing something up, but I have it nonetheless) 2. From this site I have SexLab Framework, Lovers Comfort, Submit, SexChat, Sex Addict, Hentai Impregnation 3. From Nexus I have UFO (Ultimate Follower Overhaul; the mod I am the most interested in), SkyUI, DudestiaMultiMarriages, Pretty Idles (Pretty Poses, Female Idles, Combat Idles), Falskaar, Climates of Tamriel, and then many mods that just add either NPCs that can be followers or armor/weapons (no other "serious" mods). 4. I followed UFO "fail-safe" install, but when starting a brand new game I can select "Follow me", but then they do not follow me and I can reselect the "Follow me" even though "show playerfollowercount" indicates that I had a new follower (so, I can theoretically get to "15" "followers" just by selecting that option on the same NPC, who never actually follows). 5. I have tried having UFO at the "top" and "bottom" of the load order (I assume "top" means the physical top, lowest load order number, where "bottom" means the physical bottom, highest load order number). Neither of these makes any difference and result in the same problem. 6. The biggest issue is that I cannot load any save games once I'm in the Helgen Keep (when you first gain real control of your character)! I can load a save if I save right before character creation, but trying to load any save after Helgen Keep results in a CTD. 7. There were a couple times where I thought it was a mod, so I deselected them and tried ... and it worked! So, I quickly saved, quit the game, restarted, loaded that save ... and it crashed again. Then, I would try with that same mod on a different save, deselecting something else, and it would load ... I say this because I'm trying to express that none of the mods are the culprit for the CTD when loading a save (if a specific one were, then wouldn't deselecting or completely removing that mod fix the problem at least for new saves? this is not the case here). 8. I used Boss and load order seems fine. 9. I used Wrye Bash and it says that "Update.esm" "Dawnguard" "Hearthfires" and "Dragonborn" all have "UDRs" (deleted records). However, when checking what these records are, they appear to all be things that were replaced from the mods. 10. One of my follower mods, one race mod, and "UFO" "UFO - Dawnguard Patch" and "UFO - Hearthfires Patch" all have "ITM" (identical to master) results, but NO "UDRs" in them. 11. Out of frustration, I completely uninstalled Skyrim from my computer (and I even went through and deleted all references to skyrim, anything with skyrim in the name, so it was 100% gone) and then reinstalled it by Steam. Then, when reinstalling mods, I installed them in a better order and when asked if I wanted to overwrite something, I looked at what it was and selected No in appropriate cases. 12. Also of note, I have used 100% of these mods before (other than Falskaar) and have never had this issue. Once I'm in game, it's mostly fine. It CTDs when trying to load a save and this is not an acceptable way to play if it takes me an hour just to be able to launch the thing. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
GrimReaperCalls Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Does that mean you've tried finishing all of Helgen in one go and then saving after that, such as when arriving in Riverwood. You could also try out the "Alternative Start - Live another life" mod to see whether it's the Helgen Cell that's causing it. Just to check, you make sure to run GenerateFNISForUsers.exe every time you install/uninstall a FNIS mod? Try enabling Papyrus Logging and check the log for which scripts it's trying to load. You could try installing Process Monitor and filtering it to the Skyrim Directory to see if it's trying to load any specific files when the crash occurs.

I did try finishing all of Helgen in one go and saving after that. Same result. I also tried that, but going into the Riverwood Sleeping Giant Inn (to load a new "normal world", non-beginning-of-the-game cell) to the same result. I also tried doing the above, but not saving and just seeing if UFO worked. It did not, the same "Follow me" (infinitely, but with no actual following) resulted. I also did run GenerateFNISForUsers and there were absolutely no errors. I am not familiar with Papyrus Logging or Process Monitor.
GrimReaperCalls Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I also did run GenerateFNISForUsers and there were absolutely no errors. I am not familiar with Papyrus Logging or Process Monitor. Papyrus Logging is a built in feature in the Papyrus Script engine which traces errors and saves them in a .txt file. Add the following lines to your Skyrim.ini in "C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\" [Papyrus] bEnableLogging=1 bEnableTrace=1 bLoadDebugInformation = 1 When you then run the game a file will be created in "C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Logs\Scripts". It might be a bit difficult to read, it's usually the last few lines in the script that are of interest. Process Monitor (ProcMon) is a very useful free application that monitors processes ( ) being run on your system. For example: it will check exactly which files the TESV.exe process is currently trying to load or execute. It does this for all the processes currently being run, which can clutter the log if you're not really interested in anything other than what Skyrim is doing. I use it on a frequent basis to find out if any models are corrupt or if a skeleton mesh is missing certain bones when trying to load a body etc. If you want to try out Procmon, let me know and I'll tell you how to filter it to just show Skyrim related stuff.
skyrimkevin Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 I see a lack of a load order..... I've attempted to load things in the best order that I can based on either what the author said or common sense. Your comment doesn't particularly help anything, but since you believe it's the load order here is an image showing my current load order. Oddly enough, I started again after my computer had been asleep for about eight hours and was able to load a save game. The same problem is occurring though that I want to figure out ... UFO is -not- enabling multiple followers. I still get the "Follow me" part at the bottom and clicking that increases follower count by one, but then when I talk to the person that option is -still- there and they do -not- follow me. I've tried absolutely everything I can think of (the "fail-safe installation", loading it at the top of the load order, the bottom of the load order, brand new game, uninstall skyrim entirely and reinstall ... extreme, but I'm getting the same problem, what the heck).
skyrimkevin Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 Thirty seconds ago, I loaded a save. Now, it's back to doing the CTD each and every time I try to load a save (regardless of what save it is) ... I really just want to play the game at this point ... this is getting supremely frustrating.
skyrimkevin Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 I have a papyrus log, but I really have no idea how to read it or understand what it's talking about. I tried to attach it to this post, but it won't let me, so I'm not sure how to show it. At this point, I'd really just like to figure out if it's a mod (and if so, just delete it and move on) or if it's a bug with Skyrim itself (although it shouldn't be, should it? I just cleanly reinstalled the whole game).
skyrimkevin Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 I've disabled a large number of my mods (mostly houses and followers). I now only have 55 total mods (including the main master files/ones from bethesda). I started a new game (for about the thirtieth time) and saved in Riverwood. Then, after seeing UFO wasn't working, closed the game, tried restarting, CTD when trying to load ... then, I tried a second time, it loaded. What in the world is causing these CTDs -only- when trying to load a saved game? It NEVER CTDs when starting a new game or while playing ... ONLY when loading a save. There are only two problems: 1. CTD -ONLY- when loading a save game (no other time) 2. UFO not following (even though options are there)
skyrimkevin Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 My new load order ... still cannot load a save game even after starting a fresh new game with this. I also completely uninstalled UFO (again) before starting this game ... Anyone have any ideas at all? For either? Also note that it does NOT give me any warning when it CTDs. I hit load, select the file I want to load, hit enter, and it just closes out without any warning. It doesn't give any "removed files"/"no longer available" warnings (although it wouldn't because I load it with the same stuff while I'm testing), but still I thought I'd mention this.
skyrimkevin Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 I gave up, I completely uninstalled the entire game and every mod that I have, cleaned out all files (including hidden files, did a search, all references to Skyrim are gone). This time, I'm just going to load a new game with no mods whatsoever and see if the same thing happens ... if so, then it's Skyrim's fault. Then, I'm probably just going to add in the few mods I can't enjoy the game without. Irritating that when modding the game, a lot of the time is spent troubleshooting.
Kargrin Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Sadly, The load save CTD is a mystery. Many people have the problem, but no one could find a permanent solution. My guess is something related to memory bloating.
