Is Turbo Driver now in direct violation of the Sims 4 mod policy with Patreon early access on Wicked Whims?

Confused, is there still locked content, however temporarily it may be so, on Turbo's Patreon https://www.patreon.com/wickedwoohoo  ?

EA has clarified there is no longer any wiggle room for early access lock-outs. According to this:

https://simscommunity.info/2022/07/31/ea-makes-the-sims-4-mods-policy-more-strict/

"early access is no more."

End of the mod with Turbo's cash cow now at odds with EA?

He could claim that Patreons have access to beta or release candidat versions. And the final version would be free for everyone.

Yah seems sim developers hate the modding community, I mean these people or at least some them put hard work into their stuff. Every time there is a patch update usually always a free version out of wickedwhims compatible with new version of the game. Not sure why people are so upset about some these early access content mods, I mean people who are working actively full time on their mod stuff need to get paid somehow. Isn't free making mod less you do it very sporadically in your free time and 100% free service, I think they're going to chase away modding community if they're going to police this stuff even grey zone things.

Because earning donation and advertisement revenue isn't really a stable income source for anyone, I can't help but wonder how stressful that would financially but for mod creators to have over their head. If their donations are going to break even or earn enough that month or if they can give any advertisement revenue, which in essence only really would work well for collaborate sites. Since you would also either pay to have a website yourself to get personal revenue for that if you're not doing streams or something like that, not sure there are anywhere not hosted by themselves where they would be able to post and get cuts from advertisement revenue.

Also advertisement revenue is probably not stable source of income either even bloggers and news website are struggling generating enough revenue of that, otherwise they wouldn't have suddenly almost all switched to subscription models. Probably because advertisers pay for visits or clicks, if nothing they put up in terms of advertisement translate into website visits or click, most advertisers probably not going to pay much for the services.

Also if you have your own site to make use of advertisement money, you'd also need to invest either energy or money for some customer awareness, so they visit the site in the first place and money to put up a site. Not sure where Maxis live in what kind of reality but don't think what they're asking of the mod community is that reasonable.

Even if early access is banned (my interpretation of EA's statement is that it has been prohibited), the donation option is still available.  Of course, not everyone who downloads will contribute, but I am planning on keeping my Patreon subscriptions to my favorite creators and may even add a few more to my list.  I do feel really bad for those who were following the rules, a few bad eggs who really went over the top (harassing/doxxing subscribers) have apparently screwed it up for everyone.

I encourage everyone to help the modding community by donating to your favorite creators so that all is not lost for them.

What's a "reasonable amount of time"?

Now Turbo maintains two versions, so no problem.

Those who do the perma-paywall, however, can release the early access every time EA breaks it, which is pretty often. EA doesn't say how long early access is. Seems they should define it least the clause be meaningless, which is probably what they intended.... ?

EA are as good as doing U.A. than developping game code and testing it. :)

What's a "reasonable amount of time" is a good question. I don't care too much about early access. Firstly, around 99% of my mods are free. Secondly, as long mod authors provide patch for their free version, early access is fair use, imho.

EA basically backed off and gave the perma-paywall people (PPP) a fig leaf to continue selling their mods.

Whatever. I'm not going to buy from them anymore. They're being rude

In a free market, it's should be up to the community to weed out bad actors - not by anonymously reporting to Daddy EA though, that's something that cowards and commies do - but by simply shunning the perma paywalling d1ckheads, and instead supporting the "good guys", EVEN if they release their stuff for free anyways.

Commies will not work with the great capital aka EA. They will build they own computer system, free for everyone,  develop an open source game and share freely its content to anybody. Of course, they will be stuck at building a computer phase.

EA just cowardly retreated behind the magic bunch of words "reasonable amount of time".

Good question, but an impossible one to answer. I think it should depend on the content. Making it a blanket fixed term that applies to ALL content would make no sense.

For CAS sims or recolors - which you can churn out at a pace of 2-3 a day - even a week of early access is too generous, but for an elaborate mod or tool that took the creator 500-1000 hours to make, 3-4 months or even more shouldn't be out of the question.

Think a while back SimmerErin made a video from Maxis before all of this was put out there, where I believe at that time they said within max 2-3 weeks it should be made public. With link to post where SimGuruDrake started it was within that time period would be considered early access.

I think that following EA's terms and EA's procedures does not make one a "coward" or a "commie".  It is, in the end, an agreement between EA and the mod author.

I'm concerned that the perma pay wall people will release the paywall version as public every time EA breaks it. They're very good at finding loopholes in their own mind.

At least they will release a public version each month... :)

If you don't like EA's terms then don't make mods for EA's products. The terms exist, EA owns the IP that's used to make mods, they have remidy to protect their IP and product from exploitation of third parties.

The whole 'commie and coward' thing wore out the welcome a couple of days ago.

If you think about it for more than a second, pushing out broken stuff to get people to paid for the product is exactly the kind of cow poo that perpetual paywall modders would do because it give a fig leaf to EA that they're releasing it on a timely matter while screwing those players who wanted a free product.

I'm beginning to think paying for mods is just bad business all together, the way it has  been defended

Anonymously ganging-up and mass-report creators to the most evil game company, while citing imaginary terms that don't even exist, just because they can't have the 1264345th alpha hair for free, is the definition of a coward and a commie in my book. And I should know, I'm from an ex-commie country.

ANY ONE WHO THINKS MAKING PAID CC PERMA WALLED IS GOING TO GET THEM CUSTOMERS is a massive retard.

ea is a house of cards, the terms can change at any moment, want a job in meshing? get a real job, or mesh for imvu and sl and don't expect the sims 4 community alrready tired with ea's overpriced fuck ups want to shell out for your stuff.

I have meshed up to sims 3 and have moved on to second life, none of the meshers that go the perma pay wall route make original or optimized meshes.

LOLOLOL... like clockwork, it always comes down to the same old "whaaa! get a real job! whaaa! stop forcing me to pay for stuff! whaa" tantrum. ?

ANYTHING that gets you a paycheck is a "real job". get over it, and maybe, instead of just playing you can learn how to make stuff yourself, then you don't have to rely on others.

LOL I MESH FOR SECOND LIFE, if you can't mesh for second life none of your meshes are  not worth paying for to begin with.

modding for sims is childs play, shit thats how I started to learn to mesh, was the sims 1 2 and 3 I charged nothing.

mesh for a game that requires actual quality assurance then tell me how much you should  be paid.

until then don't expect peoople to pay you for dicking around in meshing for a game already overpriced to begin with, that's not work thats scamming.

but yeah get a real job if this makes you ass mad, cause not being able to handle criticism plus stanning perma paywallers yeah you need a real job for the experiance of having to deal with customers and gain an ounce of integrity alone. like seriously outside of ll most of the perma paywallers are scammers theres people who make perfectly quality work or average work for free and not bitching about being paid. maybe because they see simming as a hobby and not an avenue to finacially exploit people to begin with?

I mean I've meshed from sims 1 to sims 3 and haven't charged a single cent for my work.

so yeah go get a real job LOL.
