As I understand it, Paradox's code, while more open for modders, is rather iffy as far as how it handles multiple mods, so frustration with conflicts has a lot of coders moving on. That and the slow update and DLC schedule that has players finding other games.

Nothing compared to the drama EA created with the Sims update this week, lol.

Pretty much. My understanding is that between mod conflicts and the remaining inability to do certain things via mods has limited the enthusiasm for mods in this venue in particular. They've pretty much done what they can with what the engine currently allows. So most mods are in a maintenance mode until things change. (That or the mod creator in question has real life constraints on time, slowing updates for newly introduced features they can use)

Keep in mind that mods that overwrite a lot of vanilla files have to be checked on every update Paradox releases as well, which makes maintenance quite time intensive.

Personally speaking, I just find modding to be a lot more.. draconian.. in CK3.

The gameplay is a tremendous leap forward over CK2, but everything from ingame console access to arbitrarily hardcoded systems(many things are possible via the console, but not via mods, for whatever absurd reason), to just the general inter-compatibility hoops you have to jump through make it a much less enjoyable modding experience.

Furthermore, people have been vocal about the restrictions, and the developers have dragged their feet and made excuses to not allow even relatively simple things we were able to do CK2(particularly in regard to gender-bending and custom impregnation logic).

I imagine a lot of modders are just simply busy (many of us have a full-time job, and modding is merely a hobby alongside gaming), or mod maintenance takes a long time.

I don't know about anyone else, but lately - as in, after May or so - CK3 started loading slowly.

Maybe it was an artifact of my less-than-legal practices - or something within my system -, but before I went 100% legit, CK3 would load very slowly the first time on a day, then load up very fast the next time. Now it takes around 10 minutes or more to load up every single time, even if I already played it before the day. This makes debugging and testing my mods a VERY frustrating experience. If testing every single minor change requires me to wait 15+ minutes before the game loads up, I inevitably going to lose morale and get frustrated.

Other than that, out of my two flagship mods, one is pretty much done and will only need marginal maintenance when the game receives updates, while the other.... I have bigger ambitions for the other one, hence the slow updates.

Definitely a shame, I've noticed this too (also the load times, I feel you Leaf!).  Some of the mods that I loved ages ago and no longer work have been abandoned (whichever one worked with simple slits to allow pubic hair that corresponded with the hair color of the person, for instance).  It has to be especially frustrating when CK3 overhauls body models like in this last patch in a way that breaks a lot of things.  Really wish I knew more about how to do stuff like this so I could pitch in with my own time and efforts, but alas I'm clueless.

Thanks to all of the modders, and if there's anything we can do to help entice you back to updating or help with the onerous workload, let us know!

The one mod that never got made but should have been is an intrigue challenge to rape. We have Abduction and murder schemes so why not rape also it could also completely throw off a playthrough when you get raped by a rival with lovers pox especially really early in your dynasty when you're trying to ensure it's survival while gaining positive traits

Frankly, I find gameplay in 2 mostly better.
