UPDATE: got my thumbnails back with the NVidia DDS Thumbnail Viewer!!

 

I had to reset my Windross 10 and as a result lost my DDS settings.  I used to have DDS thumbnails in Windows Explorer, and coujld open DDS with DDS Viewer, etc.

 

It's amazing how quickly we forget how we set up things!  Now, DDS Viewer just crashes out when I try to open any DDS file.  I had a nice setup going without needing to access bigger apps like Paint.Net and Gimp.

 

I've reloaded the software a couple of times, and tried all sorts of tricks to run it, nope. CTD.  I never recall it being like this.

 

Would a kind Guru among the community please remind me how I can have DDS thumbnails, and quick view DDS files, again?

I am able to view dds thumbnails. Though I don't remember which utility did it I can make 3 recommendations based on my collection of "dds downloads" (I keep installers for utilities I download).  Here are the ones I have in my dds download folder (one of these probably did the trick):

 

DDS_viewer.exe

Sage Thumbs (I have version 2.0.0.23 setup exe).

Windows_Texture_Viewer (My version is a v089b rar file).

 

EDIT: My guess is that DDS Viewer only allows you to open DDS files for preview while one or both of the other two probably helped with thumbnail creation

Sage Thumbs will do it. I downloaded NVidia DDS Thumbnail Viewer. That appears to be working well for me.

 

DDS Viewer simply crashes when trying to open any DDS file. I never remember it doing that before.
