Devious devices not equipping

Please, anybody, what causes this [screenshot]

This happens every time an event tries to put equipment on my char. Be it SD+, cursed loot containers (the time me up button works) or something else they all result in this, sometimes there's also a "[SD] equipDeviceByString FAILED" message but that's specifically when SD+ is triggering stuff. Everything plays out fine, say I open a cursed loot container: camera pans out to 3rd person, my character gets stripped per cursed loot settings, but the devices don't appear in my inventory and they don't equip.

Apart from this everything works perfect.

I don't know too much about modding in technical terms, let me know if I hadn't included something crucial that could help solve this problem.

As your error message begins with UD - maybe a problem with Unforgiving Devices? Try disabling them - or ask in that mod's support thread. I don't use them, so it's only a guess on my side.

 

PS: it's preferred to put Load Orders and other longish stuff in a spoiler tag (the eye-thingy in the toolbar)

Thanks for the reply! I've got progress but not a fix yet sadly. When I disable unforgiving devices it breaks DD on my save [screeenshot 1]. When I start a new save it doesn't happen and cursed loot works! Second issue though [screenshot 2], it looks like the "[SD] equipDeviceByString FAILED" message is a separate problem not connected to the other one ://

Any ideas on how to proceed? Would there be a way to clean a save so I can keep playing? I'll also try experimenting with some patches with UD I guess, maybe something there will fix it.

That error message about an old, unsopported version of DDi: Devious Devices is on version 5. I am currently on DD 5.2 beta, I think 5.1 is the current official release, found here:

 

Admittedly it's a bit confusing, that the old, single versions are still around. This is one gigantic (about 2 GB) download, but contains for reasons of confu...^W downwards compatibility all three esp's, namely Devious Devices Assets, Integration and Expansion, plus DD Contraptions. As all four are in your LO, and in the right order, I assumed that you have the newest version.

If you already have them, you might want to take a look at your Papyrus Log.

 

Unfortunately, Skyrim saves a lot of stuff, settings and scripts in their saves, so using a save after disabling one mod can lead to errors and crashing (more crashing than usual, that is) . When I try new mods where I'm unsure if I want to keep them in my LO, I always make a hard save so that I can go back without having to start a new game. Sometimes though it can't be helped and you simply don't want to start all over again just because some bloody old mod keeps crashing, in that case I use the Save Cleaner Tool (there are quite a lot out there, that's just the one I'm using)

 

BTW - if you have to start a new game (upgrading to DD demands that, no discussions) it might be a good idea to enable just that and its requirements, see if it runs stable, make a hard save, and only then install anything fancy that's prone to crashing or not working. SD+ is old and unsopported, UD is still beta AFAIK, so handle those with care, enable one at a time, watch out for errors, continue.

I'm pretty sure I got the big 2GB file, the one from media share right? I downloaded it maybe a week ago at the same time as everything else.

 

Honestly my Skyrim has been more stable than ever with those mods active, it's just those pesky errors popping up for no reason that seem to cause trouble. 

 

Thank you so much for helping me, I think I'll take a break from modding for a while though, and come back to it in a few weeks, it's gotten rather complicated and frustrating. I'll definitely keep in mind everything you've told me, thank you again!
