Compressing a .txx to save space?

I was wondering if there is a simple way to compress a .txx or is it the process of compressing the .bs to .[bsb] that saves space?

The issue I ran into was that a .txx that I had was around 60Mb, when I unpacked it, it became twice that and when I repacked it, the size stayed 120Mb.  How could I compress it again when repacking?

It's for 7.5; I haven't moved on to VX yet.  Just learning the ins and outs of modding.

As an addendum, is it possible to just inject or insert a single file into a .txx so that the unpacking/repacking isn't even required?
