Daggerfall Unity Nudes + Photoshop tools

1,800 frames hand-edited in one week!

  • Three of the sprites were exported from Blender models I used in my [much better :P] Doom 3 mod, UltraViolence
  • Otherwise, I painted over top of the base sprites from the D.R.E.A.M. mod.

I might keep going, but ultimately, I'm turning this project over to anyone who wants to fix up what I've started. Do your own thing, or check in -- but no worries about asking my permission, the answer is always yes. My wrists are creaking, and I'm sure someone out there can use this as a base for... something ;). You can poke me to fix things or improve on style, but I can't guarantee I'll have the interest -- see Disclaimers! Would much prefer fixes/derivative works.

I've also included the Photoshop painting tools used to construct these sprites, as well as my core brush set. The Photoshop ZIP includes:

  • Colours -- mostly captures the colours I started with / used for re-colouring
  • Patterns -- easily replaced with just about anything, but these worked
  • Brushes -- my core brushes for painting anything / everything (so far...)
  • Layer styles -- only really useful to reconstruct some of these sprites
  • Automated Actions -- if you want to set things on fire in one button press, download the Photoshop ZIP, and check out the steps of Window -> Actions -> FX -> Flamestuff ;).

DISCLAIMERS:

  • I'm an art newb. This project is/was my excuse to practice getting faster at painting :). Cranking out the maximum volume I could manage in a week was all I cared about, and only resorted to using Blender for exports because I didn't want to break my wrist ;). I don't like line drawings, so sprites of oldschool renders were the next best option.
  • I don't actually play Daggerfall. Is this lore friendly? No clue :). I tried to stay faithful to the original colour schemes and overall quality level of the sprites from the base game.
  • I didn't really test most of these -- just the humans and some creatures. I have no doubt you'll run into buggy frames. Sorry :(. You can poke me if there's a giant problem that's easy to solve, but little things? I'd prefer someone just fix it themselves and put out a patch.
  • If you use other mods that change textures, it's possible they will have their own scaling or textures which may introduce strange effects.

INSTALL:

  1. Download Daggerfall Unity from https://www.dfworkshop.net/  --  (Daggerfall itself should be free -- check the Steam store)
  2. This mod's sprites were based on D.R.E.A.M.'s upscaled images -- download and install D.R.E.A.M. from https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/5

  3. Download the DaggerfallNudes archive you're interested in.
  4. Each character is split into its own folder, by number. Extract the contents of each individual character's folder directly to .\Daggerfall Unity\DaggerfallUnity_Data\StreamingAssets\Textures\

  5. OPTIONAL -- The D.R.E.A.M. patch ZIP will remove emissive textures (lights) for the characters I've changed.
