Terrakion23 Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Hello, I am having a issue with FNIS crashing when clicking on ''Update FNIS Behavior'' I am on a Windows 11 Home system, a month ago i used Windows 10 and it worked just fine. I fresh installed the latest Skyrim SE/AE through Steam, MO2 (v2.4.4) Redownloaded a few mods to get started, following the guide from ''Just Don't'' here on LoversLab. I did not get past step 07.3 (page21) At the FNIS step i am supposed to check: Gender Specific Animations, Skeleton Arm Fix and HKX File Compatibility Check boxes and Run [Update FNIS Behavior] Followed with crashing to MO2 Have i done something wrong? I looked around online, watched a video from GamerPoets. Tried adding it as exceptions in BitDefender, while BitDefender wasn't even blocking it. Gave MO2 and FNIS admin rights. When running GenerateFNISforUsers outside MO2 it does work, but gives a warning for not being installed in the correct directory, probably due to how MO2 works Skyrim is installed on my C drive (C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition) MO2 is installed at C:\Games\SkyrimAE MODS\MOD Organizer The Mods are installed at C:\Games\SkyrimAE MODS\MOD Organizer\mods Is there anyone with more experience that could help me with this? I am mostly surprised that it worked on W10 but not on W11 (i upgraded from i7-4770k to Ryzen 9 5800X) My apologies in advance if this information is incomplete.. If more information is required let me know, i'll try to provide it if i can find it.
Mr. Otaku Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Okay i'm really not the guy to help people with complex issues but i'll give it my best shot anyway. I don't believe Windows 11 is the culprit here (although it's possible, i have no way to know that cause i'm still on Windows 10) Have you tried re-adding FNIS through MO2? Maybe something went wrong the first time around so give that a shot, it's a long shot though. Shorter shot would be to reinstall FNIS entirely in case you haven't done that already. Maybe that would fix whatever's causing this problem. There's no basis for this but i have a gut feeling that installing it in a different drive could be the solution. I know you didn't install it in a system directory but maybe FNIS just doesn't like C drive all that much? Again, no basis just an uneducated guess. And lastly, try enabling the "run this program as an administrator" box by going into the FNIS properties and then compatibility window. While you're at it try setting the compatibility for it to Windows 10, see if that does something. I'm shooting like a blind man here, so except to get no result from any of this until someone more competent in modding shows up. (Also damn you got a beefy ass PC from the looks of it, nice)
Terrakion23 Posted May 31, 2022 Author Posted May 31, 2022 Hello, Thank you for your reply. I have removed, re-downloaded and reinstalled FNIS a few times, both the FNIS Behavior SE 7.6 and FNIS Behavior SE 7.6 XXL Manually downloaded it from Nexus, installed through MO2, Added as Executable, Launched FNIS, checked the first 3 patch boxes. Clicked on Update FNIS Behavior, resulting in it crashing. FNIS even crashes when launched through MO2 as Executable when it's the only mod active/installed. I also can't choose Windows 10 as compatibility, can only choose between, Windows 8, 7 and Vista Tried to use Windows 7 Compatibility but no success. FNIS appears to work when launched outside MO2. with and without running as Administrator But then it can't read the mods installed through MO2 and it keeps showing the warning for not being installed in Skyrim Special Edition directory. It also creates a LogFile when launching outside MO2. I've read a few more threads and having it installed in C:\Games should be fine, as long as it isn't in ProgramFiles or ProgamFiles (x86) I might give it a try to install everything from fresh on another drive, but i'll save that for tomorrow. At least this happens with only 28 mods installed and not +200.. Right now i am running out of ideas what the issue could be. I appreciate your effort for helping me thus far.
Mr. Otaku Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 I see, in that case maybe your MO2 has bugged out somehow so a fresh reinstall is probably the best idea. I have to also reinstall my whole modded MO2 build for a different kind of problem lol. I'm sorry i couldn't give you any kind of technical insight but, it is what it is. Good luck.
Terrakion23 Posted June 1, 2022 Author Posted June 1, 2022 Hello, Thanks anyway, so far i haven't figured it out how to fix it. Tried as suggested moving everything over to my D drive. still same result, FNIS crashes after clicking on Update FNIS Behavior. Gave it Admin Rights, both MO2 and FNIS, still crashes. Currently re-downloading and reinstalling it. Regardless if it's successful or not, i still appreciate all the help i can get. So thanks again for your time. On a quick edit, it seems to have been fixed. It had something to do with BitDefender apparently. I found a link that had a solution that worked for me. I added: ModOrganizer.exe - Loot.exe - GenerateFNISForUsers.exe both SkyrimSE.exe SkyrimSELauncher.exe And the entire Folders (MO2 & Skyrim Special Edition) as Exceptions. Launched MO2 with Admin rights, ran FNIS and it didn't crash after clicking on Update FNIS Behavior. Thats a first for me, in the +5years that i've been using BitDefender i never needed to add exceptions, it just worked.. Link below and NekoKera's advice worked for me. (12th post)
