Nightwynd Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I'd suggest just getting a non steam version and moving to another folder the oblivion executable. So when you want to play you just put it back in place.
ae6b9 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Some password advice: You can add special characters to make an easy to remeber password that is ~30 characters to make it impossible to crack with brute force methods ex: you could use ((((((((((PASSWORD)))))))))) or ##########PASSWORD########## , here you have a ( x10 then your password then ) x10 after, or a # repeated 10 times before and after your password. So in essence you just remeber you regular password + a special character and how many times its repeated. Just going to point out that stuff like that adds little to no strength to a password. For his purposes something like that would be fine, although highly unnecessary. But don't count on something like that to keep you safe from brute force attacks, because it won't do much. If you want tips on how to actually create a strong password go read the Wikipedia article on it. But yeah, you should definitely use TrueCrypt. It's insanely easy to use and they provide thorough documentation on how to use it if you're confused. It wouldn't have any speed reductions either, it acts just like a flash drive or an external HD would. Just make sure you dismount any volumes when you're done using them and don't be careless with your password.
powerofvoid Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 So many people seem to be missing this fact: He said his brother doesn't play Oblivion. That means that, in the "Public" state, Oblivion doesn't need to work. In fact, given that vanilla Oblivion is rated "M" for disemboweled corpses (you can find them in the tunnels under the Imperial City), it is probably preferable if his brother can't run it at all.
LibertyPrime Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Isn't it easier just moving an ESM/ESP to a position where your game is guaranteed to CTD when it launches, as soon as you're done playing?
powerofvoid Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Lovers with PK.esm is probably an appropriate choice. As I think I said, what I'd do is move it to my home directory and replace it with a symlink. Then, I'd change the permissions so that only I (and root) could read it.
