Alfredalfer Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Part of what aggravates me about the sims 4 that my ram is 8 gb and my storage is 128 in my casual gaming lap top, I have a desktop set up but that's for my meshing work and at home call center work due to my short attention span to keep me not distracted I only play the sims and light casual games on my laptop. I am a cc hog though so I need to update my ssd and I literally have all my other games/files on a 1tb external hard drive I've tried in vain multiple times to get the sims 4 to work on 1tb external hard drive but the problem is it loads too slow and sometimes crashes 2 mins after loading. my current computer is dated its a refurbished dell latitude that was basically gutted and added with new a core i5 graphics card. I don't want to spend alot of money on something that will be used casually as my work keeps me glued to my desktop pc from about 8 am in the morning to about 10 at night. so max I am willing to spend on something that will be effectively lightly used is 400 to 500. I want to run the sims on decent if not ultra quality graphics I want enough room to store a lot of cc and mods ideally a terabyte ssd to accommodate my cc overconsumption but a good base point 512 gb, if I keep the sims 4 as the only game installed on the computer and install my other games on the terabyte hard drive I have all my older games installed on my teryabyte hadrive anyway so its not a problem if I have only 512 gb of ssd on the base computer but I am not sure how long ea will continuously update the games so I'd feel comfortable to have a terabyte ssd. So I went on wallmart, com and found out walmart gateway has risen from the dead and they now sell laptops and the specs seem kind of good. Like there's a gate way laptop for 399 it has either intel corei5 or ryzen7 for the graphics 16 gb or ram which I know is over kill for the sims 4 but I have the sims 3 installed on my external hard drive and it runs the sims 3 very poorly because it eats up my ram. 512gb or ssd intenral storage the screen is 14.1 but thats not a huge thing for me as my current refurbie is a big boy, a brick, like its hard to take with me for when I go to starbucks and sit and use the wifi when I want a break from being home. I want something slim. its new not refurbished and from walmart so if I my laptop dies randomly after purchase returns or exchanges would be easier for my because I live in the middle of no where and not have to pay shipping costs. Not that I distrust refurbished on the contrary my current laptop is a refurbie and still runs quite well for the past 3 years I had it, its just I keep buying expansion packs for the sims 4 when they come on sale so space for cc is getting kind of thin. if the sims 4 merely ran on the terabyte hard drive then I might not even consider upgrading. Basically too good to be true? Should I just wait a few more months to save up for a better laptop? I don't play alot of heavy games, I just sim and play a few visual novels and light games, and have a pc for secondlife with higher specs and meshing. I'd take the time to upgrade my current lap top but Its too time consuming to do plus I am nervous breaking into a laptop just to upgrade ssd and the ram. Also should I go for the intel core i5 or the ryzen 7? I am only know how to mesh....I am not that familiar about graphics.....:/ normally I just buy based on specs required for stuff, is the ryzen a better deal or the i5?
