MiniMania1 Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Hi I have been having issues with my fallout and discovered buffout 4. (If you don't know buffout is a mod that allows crash logs similar to skyrim) I installed it in hopes of trying to figure out what is going on. To sum up my issue if I go anywhere near the city (for example outside Diamond city or good neighbour) I get barely any fps and begin stuttering freezing and after a minute or 2 the game ctd or just crashes and doesn't respond. My last save I was coming out of the railroad church when the crash happened so I installed buffout 4 in a final attempt to figure this out. (I've had this issue for months. I have tried with and without mods and get similar symptoms. Happens less without mods but still doesnt run smoothly. I also have an rtx 2060 ). As soon as I loaded fallout a popup from the mod appeared saying "warning/CreateTexture2Dwarning.cpp(60) A call to ID3D11Device::CreateTexture2D failed error code 0x80070057. This will crash the game. Funny enough the game crashed as soon as the popup happened. I went into the crash log and the following was in the txt file "E:\Repos\f4se\Buffout4\src\main.cpp(70): [info] Buffout4 v1.24.5 E:\Repos\f4se\Buffout4\src\Warnings\CreateTexture2DWarning.cpp(60): [critical] A call to ID3D11Device::CreateTexture2D failed with error code 0x80070057. This will crash the game." I have no idea what any of this means lol. I was hopping someone would be able to help.
Spyder Arachnid Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Bad texture. A mod you downloaded has a bad texture and is causing a crash. Either wrong dimensions or saved in the wrong dds format or whatever. Either way, you have a bad texture in your game. Sadly, it won't tell you what mod has the bad texture, or where that texture is loaded, just that there is one. Troubleshooting it is painful, but not hard. Simply remove your loose textures folder in your data folder, and go to the troublesome area where you crash the most. Then bit by bit, start adding those textures back. Load the game, check if you crash, if not, then add some more. Keep doing this until you crash and get that error again. Once that happens, you'll remember the files you added last and then remove everything from the loose textures folder, but those files. Now go a few files at a time and start the process again until you crash. Process of elimination is all. Just keep going till you finally weed out the culprit that is causing the crashes and get rid of it. Make note of what mod it is from as well so you can check it out to see if others had issues with it or report it at least. Hope that helps. Have fun lol. 2
IsaacSuit Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 No idea if this will help, but I had this exact problem - however, there seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to which areas would crash me out when trying to teleport or walk into certain cells. I finally bit the bullet and removed every folder from my data/textures folder and then teleported to the problematic area of the current game. I saved, quit, then replaced the texture folders in blocks of 5, started up the game each time, and if it allowed me there and didn't crash, then all was well. Eventually I found the culprit - at least, for me! That was gratifying, to say the least. Anyway, the mod that was crashing me out was this one: Revenant's Flags and Curtains, found at https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/30998?tab=description. I loooooooove this mod, too, so I'm sad but at least it's not going to break my personal immersion to have removed it. And this makes complete sense as well from the standpoint of there seeming to be no rhyme or reason as to what areas would CTD for some of my characters yet not for others. It's because the areas which were crashing me out were places where I had erected/placed a flag from this mod, whether as a "curtain" or as a waving flag up a flagpole. I hope this is helpful. I'm going to let the mod creator know of this just so they're aware, as it may be something they can fix quite simply. Which would make me happy since I enjoy the mod. ?
BAB PEEG Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) I'm getting that too but I don't have that mod, really pulling my hair out on it, it happens only sometimes when I'm walking around but it will happen if I scroll through eyes in looks menu or when I change certain armor colors, I guess it's also a bad texture somewhere. My buffout auto scan message was this Main Error: Unhandled exception "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" at 0x7FF6253BF684 Fallout4.exe+0E9F684 Edited May 22, 2023 by BAB PEEG added text
