Piper can't use beds

Hi, gang!

I am having a really weird issue with Piper. Whenever she's commanded to "inspect bed," no matter what type of bed it is, I receive a response like, "Not now. Not ever," or "That's a joke, right?" or "I can't believe you'd even ask me that," or "Absolutely not." When issuing this command to any other companion, they go lie down in the designated bed and sleep. I'm at maximum affinity with her and still get the "Lover's embrace" perk when sleeping with her around.

She also never automatically sleeps.

Oddly enough, there is one bed, in Sanctuary Hills, that she will get into when commanded. It's the only bed in the entire worldspace where she will do so.

I'm thinking that there is something messed up with her AI. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

That's an interesting one, I haven't seen it before.  I just did a test and she gets into bed just fine at just above starting affinity.  Have you tried starting a new game in DC and see if the bug persists?  (Can use SKK fast start & start location to start in Home Plate).  If you can't do it on a new game that would point to a potential mod incompatibility somewhere with her AI.

From another thread (I think Izzy posted this) If piper gets stuck in an animation:

Target Piper or type

Target Piper or type prid 2f1f

caa animarchetypeplayer
caf

The only other suggestion I have is take everything out of her inventory and try the resurrect command on her, I've had to do that when I didn't have auto healing turned on in survival Options and Preston kept acting like he was hurt and following all weird.

Hi, @Marg597!

Thanks so much for your help with this one. I started a new game and found that Piper didn't have the bug anymore. However, the synth version of Curie now has the bug. The weird thing is, I didn't do anything with her other than bring her back to Sanctuary and assign her quarters and a bed.

Upon further investigation, I found that she would ONLY get into the bed to which she had been assigned, even when commanded to do otherwise. Even when I demolished that bed completely, nothing changed.

I tried the commands provided here, but that didn't seem to have an effect. Then, I built a bunch of new beds in Sanctuary and assigned her to one. I found that she would get into any of those beds, couldn't get into any of the other beds in Sanctuary, but COULD get into the bed in Publick Occurrences (after it was marked as not owned).

Have I found some really weird game mechanic related to settlements?

I am not sure what's going on here, and I couldn't find anything on Google about the topic. I don't have any mods installed that change beds (as far as I know). I did notice one thing in my Workshop menu, though. See below. Any idea what might be putting this here in its own category (or any way to find out)? I wonder if it has anything to do with it.

That is a really interesting issue.  Regarding the follower issue, you could try opening the console, clicking the bed and typing setownership and press enter, see if that resets it so they can use other beds?

Edit: Additionally, perhaps another settler is already assigned to the bed you are trying to put her in and that's why she wont get in it?  I think it's definitely an ownership issue.  I think if you open workshop mode and the person icon is green when you mouse over a bed, it means someone has already been sleeping there.

As far as the mattress there, I think I've got the same one but just never paid attention.  Try building it, open the console and click on it.  That should give you an ID, you can look in your mod manager to see which mod has the first to characters / digits or open xEdit and search for it with the formID filter.

Hey, @Marg597!

These are really good guidelines - thank you. I'll check the ownership issue and the item ID. Do you happen to know where I can find the mod ID in Mod Manager 2?

One way you can find it is by looking at the first two characters of the ID that shows up for the item and check the "mod index" column in Mod Organizer, but sometimes I have trouble finding it like that.  For example If it starts with 00 then it's from Fallout.esm, i.e. the vanilla game.

The other way is to open up xEdit and use the filter at the top left to paste the ID in and hit enter, but if you do that just let it sit there.  If you open all your plugins, it can take a couple minutes to find stuff.
