What is better overwrite sequence for graphic mods?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I just installed some number of graphic mods into my mo2 and find that I have some question about how they should be placed.

This is screenshoot of graphics part of mo2. All mods are from nexus with its official naming.

Is this overwrite sequence correct? Or it can be modified for better work?

PS can MO2 do some report about what overwrites each other in text format for pack of mods?

I don't use MO2, so I can't judge your list very well.

I will instead give you general advise.

Thoroughly read the descriptions offered by the mod authors and any other information they provide. They usually provide some load order info IFF their mods require any special attention on load order. This goes for any mod, adult or otherwise. (example: MNC is one where it's crucial, as afaik, is SOS)

If they don't specifically offer it, if at nexus, check the Posts tab on the mod page. There's often good info to be found, even if it means wading through the posts. (yes, I know, it can be tedious), and if at Lover's Lab, check the associated Support page, usually (or always?) offered via a button from the main mod page

Another avenue is a directed widenet search (google, duckduckgo, etc), ie something like "skyrim special edition sex lab sexlab load order recommendation" if you see where I'm going (that is, replace "sex lab sexlab" with the name of the mod you want to know about). This *can* sometimes speed up the search for desired info.

OH, one more... The mod that loads last will (?almost?) always dominate when mod contentions are encountered. This is what "overwrites" means, (just in case you're not aware) >>> skyrim loads <some mod>  then it loads <some other mod> . If the two act on the same stuff, the last one will "overwrite" whatever shared content they include, be it script or resource or whatever.

Hi and TY.

How it works for MO2 (btw for another mod managers too, but I'm not sure how. Maybe for Vortex it can be mod install order or something like that):

1) In mods we have not only ESP's, but some number of files too.

2) Sometimes there can be one file in more then one mod. They are different files that were modified by mod authors. Or they can be exact the same if mod authors want to work things with only one of their mods installed.

For example, I have /Meshes/weapons/torch/torch.nif file in 3 mods: ELFX, Embers HD and ENB Light.

3) In MO2 you can move that mods into correct position so you will see correct file in game.

For example, on screenshoot there's way I will see in game torch.nif from ENB Light.

So my question is about if someone have some info about how things work better. Maybe someone already made some experiments or something like that. I tried looking on mod pages and that what I see is what I finished in for now.

Yes, in Vortex, you can also manually adjust load order for plugins, something that can help when certain files overwrite each other in a way that one doesn't want, or which causes actual problems. However, in general, I've found that Vortex does a very good job with background processing and load order arrangement during the mod installation processing, but it's not "uncommon" to have to choose load order (usually the suggested load order placement is correct, but not always), or to manually adjust after-the-fact, when its code doesn't catch a load issue (rare) or when its suggested load order doesn't provide the desired result.

As I previously noted, the LL "support pages" and Nexus "mod posts tab" offer a wealth of info from mod users.  But I'll drop it beyond this and wish you the best with waiting for someone to analyze your load order listing and tell you what works "best" for their game.

I tried... There's too much info there... and some is really opposes each other... I'll try to write there, but...

Read the posts first before posing queries. It is tedious, I realize that. Many of us have had to do so. I spent inordinate numbers of hours readings posts and watching videos, and many others have as well. You just have to wade though it until you figure things out. That's the sad reality.

As I *might have said, a widenet search using specifics can help to ferret out the responses you need for a given issue.

Of course, posting concise, targeted questions and providing concrete details (I'm having problems with this mod (named) vs that mod (named), snapshots, etc also often generates solid answers, whereas just dropping the entire load of your mod list and saying "how do I make it perfect?", is a bit much for most of us to even bite, let alone digest

Hopefully for you, some Skyrim/MO2 "Sensei" will read your post and hand you "the answer". idk. It's definitely not me. I'm just not qualified. All I can give you is what wisdom I've picked up fixing my own issues over the past 2 years. And that wisdom really boils down to being a humble student. This is a big, complex game when you get beyond that first vanilla installation.

best wishes

PS> no need to respond, I realize you and I are on different wavelengths. There's no need to continue the conversation,

MO2 can show you all mods that overwrite another mod.  I do no know of any report, but there is a column in the mod list that shows you.  It should be the 2nd column, right after mod name.  It is labeled "Conflicts" and if a mod overwrites, or is overwritten by, another mod there should be an icon with a yellow lighting bolt with a little green plus (+, overwrites another mod) or a red dash (-, is being overwritten by another mod).

If you double click on on the mod in your mod list, it will bring up a menu with a set of options.  I think the default list option is "Conflicts" (it is the default for me).  This list will show you every single part of the file that is interacting with another mod in a way that overwrites one or another.

For example, I just double clicked in the mod list on "Total Character Makeover", which is very high in my mod list (and therefore "losing" most conflicts). MO2 is telling me it is "winning" (overwritting) the female Khajiit hands texture from CBBE. It also tells me it is "losing" (being overwritten by) eye reflection textures from The Eyes Of Beauty mod. Lastly, it tells me which parts of the file have no conflicts and therefore is not impacted by any other mod.

So you don't need a report, and as you move files in your mod list this conflicts column will update.

Note:  when you are moving the file within the mod list, you should see on the right the scrolling bar that shows how high/low you are on the menu should have either a little green or red spots on it if the mod you're moving has conflicts.  These are showing you where in your mod list the mods that it is winning (green) or losing (red) are in the list as you move.  This is super helpful, so you don't need to know "the mod this needs to overwrite is #173 on the list"...instead you just move it below that little red line.  This is awesome for mod lists with hundreds of mods.

Also, your written English is really good.

for pack of mods

Hi. This part of question was about getting some kind of full report in one text to post it here as a detailed report of my problem/question.

PS I know how it works for ONE mod. But anyway TY for trying to help ?

PPS I just can't find one info about who should "win" and who should "loose" in overwrite conflicts... There's some number of info that says one and some number of info says another =( Going to sort that info on posted time but it takes really alot of time =(

Ok, that's good.  Part of what I wanted was to explain for anyone who searches this in the future how it works.

I think there are so many possibilities that depend on which mod in particular and how your mod list as a whole works, that it's almost impossible for general advice.  You would probably need someone to look at your entire mod list, know the mods, and then give specific instructions just for that mod list.  For myself, I had to learn by trial and error and by using logic.  For example, knowing that "Eyes of Beauty" mod should improve the eyes over CBBE.  Honestly, I'm not 100% sure that my own mod list is perfect.

Mostly I have just had to look at the page for the downloads themselves to see if the mod author lists any conflicts or requirements, especially if they say a certain requirement should overwrite another.  You probably know this, so I am probably not telling you anything new.  But I don't really know any other way, other than looking at other technical support threads.  Which I am sure is a big headache to spend a lot of time on for a language that isn't native, even when fluent.

I just remembered that I posted some recommendations on a few graphics mods that I give information on what the load order should be.  I list them according to the load order I use and mention which should overwrite another.  You may already know this stuff, but in case it is helpful here's a link to that:
