Armor hiding bodypaint overlays

I'm using the CBBE 3BBB version of the book of UUNP armors, and some of the sets I want to use make any bodypaint overlays on my character completely disappear, while other sets don't. Any idea what would cause this/how I could fix it?

Ā

I'm fairly clueless with outfit studio, but changing the reference body around did eventually get bodypaints to show up with one of these armors. As far as I can tell all the sets use the same reference body though, so I don't know why they'd show up fine on other sets without tinkering around with things.

My best guess in this case would be those armors that are still hiding the overlays and have bare arms or legs or what not, are not really showing the reference body, but have those body parts as part of the armor, they basically have a skin colored sleeve where the body part should be if that explanation makes sense.

Yeah that makes sense, I'm familiar with that concept. I guess I'm just unclear why some armors in this pack work this way and others don't. The set I've been trying to make work in particular shows a lot of torso skin, but other sets that show much less have overlays show up just fine.

Who knows why the designers of some armors do certain things, this sort of reminds me of one of the fallout 4 armor packs, the guy who did it completely renamed all the slots, he actually had a section in his faq on the armor pack with that question being asked why, his answer was because, no other reason at all, it made any mod that managed armor or did anything using slot numbersĀ  pretty much useless as his armor used custom slot naming.
