However, little do they know that the weathered don has a trick up his sleeve aimed at thwarting their attempt.

Vito's confronts Joe about his betrayal and discovers it was more than business. More than manipulation. More than getting pressured by law enforcement. Joe had been envious of Vito's rise to power, citing their relationship and Joe looking out for Vito when they were kids. Vito cuts ties with Joe as we transition to the next chapter. Final flashback episode showing Vito and Max and the 101st Airborne trekking in the snowy forest of Bastogne. The canon is that Vito had been injured before returning to Willow Creek in 1944 (see Chapter 1 of Part I). After the duo narrowly survive a German artillery bombing, Vito receives a letter from Frankie sharing the news of their father's death. He barely has time to process the news before Max tells him that they have to return to the frontlines.
