Question - Copying specific bones missing while adding TBBP/BBP support

Hi guys,

i'm wondering if you could help me with a little problem.

i've been following cherry's guide to add TBBP-BBP support to armor pieces

considering that some armors have more complex designs i started with a very simple one (or so i thought) the "forsworn" mod that's basically a leather swimsuit

i thought everything went ok, but every time i equip it ingame i CTD, so i started checking what might be the problem, and long story short i did the "body" ok (the "armor's body" nitrishape loads and "moves" if i remove the armor nitrishape) but the "armor" nitrishape is missing the following bones

skirt L 1

skirt R 1 and 2

skirt F 1

skirt B 1 and 2

and both left and right pauldrons

(i "copied" those NiNodes at the bottom of the weighted armor, but they are basically bogus nodes since they aren't "associated" to the armor nitrishape)

the female skeleton i use/copied from lacks those bones, so i figured i need to manually "copy" those bones (weight painting them i think would be harder) and i've been reading on the internet but i just dont get how i can do that, tried the "skin utilities" thing but no luck

it would be awesome if someone could fix the armor, but even better if you could teach me what i need to do to practice with future projects

thanks!

perhaps the wrong thread, but help is needed.

the way I convert clothings is as thus:

-start from a non edited version of the clothes.

-copy the skin from the body you want to convert to, below the existing clothings' skin.

-delete the old skin from the clothes

(it may jump up or down from the character, just apply an "edit mesh" modifier and move it to the body)

-get to shaping the clothes to the body.

after export check it with nifscope.

check for breast bones, butt bones, pre, etc.

if stuff is missing, or it looks bad in game, reimport this mesh into 3ds/blender and recopy skin from body to clothes and redo above.

if you did this for panties, check to see if any bones are there that should not be, like arm bones.

same for bras and stuffz.

_-------------------_

here's the bad parts:

-skirts and dresses need to be repainted for weighting to skirt bones.

-you cannot delete bones in nifscope without causing ctd in game.

-the skeleton you use to do all this in 3ds or blender dictates how this all works ingame. if the game skeleton does not have the bones, game ctd.

thanks for the tips

i think i'm doing something wrong, i've repeated the process without adding the BBP, with a different armor (without the troublesome bones) just basic mesh editing in 3ds and something makes me ctd

copied the dismember and alpha from the original like cherry's post says but i'm missing something, the "armor" part nitrishape always causes ctd, should i delete the original BSDismember modifier in 3ds and create new ones?

I suggest start from an unmodified armor.

follow the steps she outlined, exactly...as possible.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm fairly certain it is that you did not copy the textures from the original nif to the new one (happens to me often too).

THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS in modifying for the body you prefer :(  Sorry.

If not, then perhaps you are using the wrong skeleton in the game for BBP or TBBP bounce.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOWEVER

if you really need to, yes you can make a new BSDismember.  Just remember to apply the smooth modifier before you add the new skin, BSDismember because 3ds will crash otherwise (not sure about blender).

there we go, finally got it working on another "full body" simple armor, you were right, the issue lies in with the texture files

but it was someone's mod, meaning the .dds texture files were "outside" the original bsa

if the original texture files the armor uses are part of a bsa how do i get that working with 3DS? just unpacking em works?

when 3ds opens, a warning pops up.

use the warning's directory to locste the dds file's location. wherever you placed them. not in a bsa of course, 3ds can't read them.

I have mine on the desktop in a folder called Skyrim Textures.

got the BSAopt, and finally i got it working, i appreciate your help thru this process, now time to try with more complex meshes :)

hiya, new question, figured i might as well bump the old thread since it's the same topic anyway

i've been somewhat successful with a couple armors during the past few days but today i've found a new weird error

i'm modding the dragonbone armor, thing has shoulders so i'm taking em off for aesthetic reasons (hair clipping)

everything went ok, the armor works ingame BUT there's a weird blank space between the arms-hands

but it doesn't happen with the feet, the feet are ok with and without boots

the TBBP worked, the armor's ok, but there's that stupid space, i've repeated the process from scratch 5 times, checked the bones-weights, the same thing keeps happening (if i just TBBP it without removing the shoulders, there's no weird invisible space)

any ideas? thanks

sorry for taking so long.

you gotta rework the hands to the arms or fit the arms to the hands.

pick one, I usually work the arms to the hands. Positioning the vertices to match locations, you gotta work both the min weight and the max weight arms/hands..and that takes a while.

again, the skeleton is vital.

by the way, hopefully bethesda gives us a new game on the pc. the drm on consoles seems like a gold mine for publishers, bothconsoles. here's hoping.
