Anyone want (to help test) my enb for Oblivion?

I've been working on this for about a month now, and since I love LL I figured I would come ask if anyone wanted to help me test my enb for Oblivion. This may turn into a lot more than you think :

1: This is actually a tweaked Skyrim ENB I set up to work with Oblivion. You may be familiar with it, Sharpshooters Extreme Graphics ENB. It is one of my favorite Skyrim ENB's and after looking over the enbseries.ini I was able to get it to run pretty much like it does in Skyrim ( THIS INCLUDES DEPTH OF FIELD, BOTH 3rd AND 1ST PERSON, without doing anything other then WHAT I SAY ). Note that more than a few settings HAVE to be changed for it to work, let alone work WELL. Just using the ENB I linked for your Oblivion ENB will not work well.

2: For my desired results ( try to get Oblivion to look as much like Skyrim [ with mods ] ) as I could ), I had to get SweetFX AND ENBSeries...... AND Oblivion Graphics Extender to work together, in Oblivion! It took a fair bit of finagling but I managed to find a way to make it work. You will more than likely have to do EXACTLY as I did to get the game to even launch without an instant CTD.

3: I also have Qarls Texture Pack III Full v1_3 AND I'm using Xeo SP++ for the screenshots you see. Everything has been installed correctly so your milage may vary. Now I should also add I have a fair amount MORE than this installed, but for just basics this is also what you will need ( You at least need Qarls, if you want NPC's to stay how you have them looking now instead of like my attached screenshots, otherwise also get Xeo SP++ [ I like it ] ).

4: You are GOING to have to poke around in folders / manually install stuff. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, this is probably not for you.

5: I'm going to go on the assumption you have OBSE installed. I have no idea if this would work without it, and I DOUBT it since OBGE needs OBSE IIRC. I'm not even going to bother linking it. If you are going to mod, get a silverlock Script Extender. NOW.

6: Last but CERTAINLY  not least, you are going to have to have a pretty decent ( read : BEEFY )  PC to do this. Do not expect the game to run, let alone run well, on say a generic laptop.

*Addendum* : I may have gotten some of these steps out of order, or I may have forgotten a step. Please don't kill me. When and if this doesn't work for you let us see if we can't figure out why, and if it is my fault, I will amend the steps.

Ok on to the good stuff. I try to be pretty straight forward when it comes to things like this. Below are the steps you NEED to take in numerical sequence ( if you have any problems or don't understand how something should be installed please feel free to ask in the comments. I will try to get back to you or one of the wonderfully helpful people here on LL that knows the answer will help you ):

1) If you have not already installed OBGE please do so now. Just follow the instructions for it. You do not need to do anything OTHER then install it ( if you have tweaked you OBGE already don't worry it should be ok but it is NOT needed to do so ).

2) If you have not already installed an Oblivion ENB, or do not have the most up to date Enbseries.DLL ( it is the authors wishes that ENB stays on his site and is not uploaded / linked externally and I will respect this )  Visit ENBDEV.COM and DOWNLOAD THIS FILE  .  Look right below the picture for the little arrow pointing down next to the text " Download ENBSeries v0.167 for TES Oblivion "  and click the arrow.

3) We NEED to install  the " InjectorVersion " version of the download ( yes to make this work you MUST, in bold for a reason, use the Injector and not a Wrapper [ explained later ]. If you have a Wrapper version you will need to make a working backup of it then install the injector ).

4) Now while as far as I am aware SweetFX has No problem with me just including everything needed in my own upload ( the site says nothing about it and I have plenty of Skyrim ENB's that have SweetFX included ), I'm not going to do it. You will never learn if you don't do it on your own. Besides, these are the steps I had to take to get everything working right. Anyway, CLICK ON THESE BIG CAPITAL LETTERS AND DOWNLOAD THIS, install it the same way you installed the injector above ( I.E : correctly ). Make note of a file named " d3d9.dll " please.

5) Now things might get a little strange even for your advanced modder. Go to your Oblivion folder and change the name of file " d3d9.dll " to " d3d9_sweetfx.dll ".

6) Still with me? Good :) NOW you can download the attached file. Install it like you did the ENBSeries. When asked to overwrite, say YES ( you HAVE to say yes, again, MAKE A BACKUP OF ANY WORKING ENB SETTINGS YOU HAVE NOW! ). You will notice that NOW you are only replacing 4 files. These are what I had to change after all this to get it to work right.

7) NOW the even stranger way you have to go about this. If you have / use a mod manager like OBMM or NMM or Wyre, make sure your load order is the way you want it etc, and if it is, CLOSE IT DOWN / DO NOT RUN IT.  After setting things the way you want it you will not need it. You will only need it when you make any changes ( I.E : new mods / load order issues ) to your game. When your done SHUT IT DOWN,

7a) Side note : this was my biggest struggle. I couldn't figure out why everything I had done to this point would cause a CTD on Startup.  Turns out it was from running OBSE from NMM. Doesn't work. Don't ask me why. You ( probably ) HAVE to do what I did in step 8 to get the game to launch.

8) Hang in there we are almost done! Now create a shortcut to OBSE on your desktop, OR, get ready to have to click it a lot.

8a) Create a shortcut to Oblivion\ENBInjector.exe on your desktop, or be ready to have to click it a lot.

9) Launch The Injector. Feel free to minimize to tray if you like. Now launch OBSE from the shortcut you made on your Desktop, NOT from your mod manager! ( again, don't ask me why, it WILL crash. )

SUFFIX :

When the game starts and all your scripts etc are done loading, hit the " * " key on your keyboard, this will make the ENB show your FPS. If it is something you feel COMFORTABLE with ( I.E : it is still super high because your PC is TeH AwEsOmE! ) , hit the Tilde Key ( ` on my keyboard ) to bring up the console. Now hit SHIFT + ENTER.  IF you have no idea what this is BUT your FPS it STILL at  least 25+, you can TRY scrolling down in the new menu and checking OFF UseOriginalObjectsProcessing ( click OFF the little green arrow next to it ). This will lower your FPS by a fair amount but will make the colors and image sharpening look even better. If the game is STILL running fine by your standards, scroll back to the top, click the little box next to SAVE CONFIGURATION , and go about your merry way, either by hitting Tilde and Shift + enter again, or making any changes you like in the enb menu before hitting tilde and Shift + Enter again.

P.S : To anyone interested, the enbseries.ini you download from me FORCES SweetFX to also run, and the settings themselves do NOT conflict with OBGE in anyway that I can tell.

I hope by sharing this someone enjoys it.

Peace,

Shay

I noticed on the forum page it says that there are 0 views and 0 replies to this post ( at least for me it does ). However I know this can't be true because as of the time of this posting a few people have downloaded the attached file ( and one person liked it :P ). Anyway this is a little bump to let people know I'm here, and if you are one of the people that downloaded and actually followed my steps and used this, please, let me know what you think!

Peace,

Shay

*one minute later edit* : As soon as I posted this the forum updated to show my views and replies.

im curious to see what my oblivion look like with this, ill upload some pics once I get my pc working again.

I think that I'm even more curious to see what your Oblivion looks like with this then you are. Either out of everyone who downloaded it all or most of them hated it / couldn't get it to run and said fuck it and didn't tell me, Or, most or all everyone got it to work just right and are just having too much fun playing Oblivion to let me know!

Either way it would be nice if someone let me know everything is fine / sucks balls. :P

I'll try this out right now, just got to get backup my other enb. I'll edit this post and tell you what I think off it after I try it out ;D.

It did work for me but the "use original proccesing effect" break the water graphic. I can dissable that process but doing that will break the whole graphic in the game and If i dissable the global effect I miss all the cool looks :P  all the rest is ok but the FPS drops a lot in some areas

Sorry Im new and my english isn't that good. I'll leave some pics anyway:

And this is the problem I did mention about:

I get a pure black screen when playing with it on.

Will try again.

EDIT: I have managed to evolve the black screen into a grey screen. Still trying to get it to work.

EDIT 2: I have broken my Oblivion. Saved my mods and re-installing Oblivion.

EDIT 3: OH GOOD LORD WHAT HAVE I DONE? EVERYONE LOOKS LIKE THEY WERE TURNED INSIDE OUT.

EDIT 4: I'VE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE.

Can't tell if serious or . . .

I wasn't joking. I think I found the problems.

The first bug happened because I had tweaked a bit of my other visual enhancements. This forced the nVidea bug to re-occur.

The second thing happened because I removed the Shaders folder by accident.

The third thing happened was because I re-installed most everything but did not invalidate the archive, which forced the skins to warp.

The fourth thing was me realizing that I've really fucked the dog and that I could've avoided all of this if I did not have HDR turned on.

[You should mention that bloom and anti-aliasing should be on, not HDR]

You'll be glad to know that I still haven't gotten it to work 100%, but that's because I'm trying to make it work with the wrapper version which is more convenient. I have managed to get it to load most everything and will get back to you once I have it sorted out.

Looking good so far though.

OBGE liquid water? Do I have to dissable that? I have it installed.

EDIT: The problem still persist with or without OBGE liquid Water. Like I said, If I set off "UseOriginalObjectsProcessing" it will fix the water problem but at the same time other graphical problems will occur, one that make the screen blink a lot.

Looks good for screenshots and such, and performance is decent too. Unfortunately I run into transparent water/texture bugs that generally make the game unplayable, so pretty pictures only for now.

I solved the problem. I had to dissable "detailed shadow" effect and that solved everything. Great "guide"  about this effects and this is what I was searching for, because I realized that even with texture packs or pretty faces didn't help with the overall visual as I wanted. Many thanks Shaydow.

Didnt work to well for me shadows were flickering alot and didn't want to bother to fix it because my fps was 15-23fps, but i do like it, I might try it again once I upgrade my gtx650,

I'm thinking this has to do with water mods. When I set it up everything was working fine, but I recently installed Morrowblivion and started to notice this, but only in Morrowwind. I noticed the Mod comes with its own water mod that affects water in Morrowwind but not Oblivion. I'm looking into it but for now it can be quick fixed on the fly in game by opening the enb console and either A: Turning OFF UseOriginalObjectProccessing ( this will cause an FPS drop ) or B: Just turn off the UseEffect setting until your away from the water. Note that while turning off the ENB makes a noticeable difference in graphics quality, SweetFX and OBGE will still be working.

This shouldn't have been on. It causes stripping. It's especially noticeable when you have the highest settings for Self Shadows and have tweaked your Oblivion.ini shadow settings. Can anyone else confirm this setting is ON for them by default?  If so let me know and I will upload a new enbseries.

See above reply.

*EDIT* attaching a screenshot of my trying to work out water issues. Tweaking Oblivion.ini let's me have some FANTASTIC looking water, however You can't use OriginalObjectProcessing :/ This is in Morrowblivion.

I have a Gtx550 and the game runs above 30fps. Sometimes the fps drops below 20 when I am traveling and the game begin to load new areas but I think this problem come from other mods.

How do you fly? it's an special race?

First : That's great! Do you have UseOriginalObjectProcessing turned on or off? If it is on, have you tried turning it off? Also, is the UseDetialedShadows on or off? Can you show me some screenshots please?

Note that Im using "qarl texture redimized further reduced" to reduce some fps drops from the normal version (4000x4000 textures) lol but I realized something else that Is not shown in the screenshot, even if I turn off "UseOriginalObjectProcessing" may solve the water problem but at the same time this generate a problem for me because the screen begin to blink a lot in that case turned on "WaitBusyRenderer" but this make the fps drop a lot. There is not solution for the water graphic without affecting something else.

I noticed in the one screen you had AmbientOcclusion on. That will cause the the screen to blink and to "fog", and will be extremely noticeable when inside, especially dark caves. ALWAYS leave this off. So far I have not been able to get it to work right in Oblivion ( works fine in Skyrim ).

As for the water problem, I'm still working on it.

@Shaydow - Honestly I haven't even looked at oblivion with enb since a while back when I saw Morrowind 2011.  Though recently this has sparked my interest...

Some fan of somber enb (the new 0.186+ enb config for skyrim) applied it somehow to oblivion, and what you see in the screen shot is the result!  That really blows me away!  Almost as much as morrowind 2011 did.  I'm for sure going to take a work at what you've done here, and see how I can revitalize oblivion ;D

Wow, your screenshots look really geat. But I can't seem to get this to work, installed everything correctly but everything's the same. I couldn't find enb 0.167 so I'm using the latest .181.

PS: One more thing, Shift+Enter doesn't work too.

Your correct, for whatever reason he seems to have removed 0.167. I honestly don't know what to do about this..... I don't want to ( and he asks kindly that no one does ) upload his, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. Have you tried a google search? Hey, you never know.

If the author forbids distribution then your hands are pretty much tied, at least publicly.  PMing something obviously isn't a problem, but posting a public link would be.

Have you tried getting in touch with the mod author for enb 0.167 and see if he will either provide a link to it, or allow you to?

I am guessing if you explain what you are doing he will probably consent.
