Resources for learning to mod

I've been toying with the idea of making a small mod in Skyrim, probably with a couple of custom NPCs and dialogue and following that I'd hope to add some questions and DD integration of some sort.

 

Could anybody point me in the directions of some guides for getting started with Skyrim particularly? I'm a bit daunted by quite how many threads, guides and versions of everything there are, and it's not obvious at all where I'm meant to start (I'm on LE for reference). I'm say I'm a competent coder and tinkerer, so all I'm looking for is a few links to get started and I'm sure I can figure out the rest!

You'll need:

- Creation Kit

- (optional but very usefull) xEdit

- because script editor inside CK is blah, Notepad++ (or something similar)

 

Skills/knowledge required is the same for LE and SE.
