Gameplay

Resident Evil 6 is a linear based mission game and 6th major instalment of the Resident Evil series created by Capcom. The player takes control of one of 7 characters seen throughout the series. All gameplay is done from third-person view and on all difficulties expect amateur the player will need to complete a series of Quick Time Events or QTE for short. These in itself can be tricky and annoying to complete as the buttons change unexpectedly.

Each storyline will be based around two characters and will feature sections where other characters storylines will crossover with yours. Characters are paired up as follows:

  1. Leon S. Keddeny and Helena Harper
  2. Chris Redfield and Piers Evans
  3. Jake Miller and Sherry Birkin
  4. Ada Wong (If playing COOP the other person plays as HUNK, HUNK is not with Ada when playing solo)

Graphics and Physics

The graphics and physics in Resident Evil 6 are slightly improved over that of Resident Evil 5, one of the noticeable differences is that all the characters have been given makeovers to make them appear order in this instalment of the game and the game now has bouncing breasts built into it!! Woot!! The breasts bounce for both ATI and Nvidia users.

Some of the environment can be destroyed such as some walls, pillars, explosive barrels etc. Unlimited ammo perks can be purchased in the in-game skills menu but users should note that on No Hope difficulty this perk is automatically disabled.

Audio

The music and sound effects for Resident Evil 6 really add to the atmosphere of the game. The audio will leaving you sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what is going to happen.

Advice on playing the game's story campaigns with other players

It is ill advised to play with game with random players located on RE.net or Steam. Trust me when I say you will need someone like a friend, relative, partner or someone else who you really know to help you if you are going to play with both characters as human controlled instead of the sidekick being a Non Player Character. Remember the more player controlled characters the strong the enemies are going to be.

Game Modes

Besides the main campaign Resident Evil 6 has six other game modes besides the campaign which can be played by yourself or with friends. These modes are as follows, the game modes Onslaught, Siege, Predator and Survivors require you to purchase the relevant DLC for them before you can play them. If you pre-ordered the game will would of automatically got the DLC for free:

Agent Hunt

Agent hunt is a game mode which is taken from Left 4 Dead. In this mode two players will try and complete the games storyline while other players controls creatures located within the story they are playing.

Predator

In this players take in turns playing Ustanak, the remaining human players during each round must defeat the player playing Ustanak before he is able to place all the human players into a recovery state (A state which requires another player to help you get up)

This is my favourite game mode when playing with more than one other person :)

Survivors

In survivors each player must select a human character from the main storyline, depending on the character you select depends on your starting weapons. The objective in this game mode is to defeat all the other human players and be the last one standing.

When you die you will respawn as a creature, if you kill a player when you are a creature you will respawn as the character you choose at the beginning of the game. The player you killed will then become a creature in your place.

Siege

In siege 6 players will be divided into 2 teams, one team will play as the agents and the other team will play as the creatures. The objective is simply, the agents must defend a NPC known as the rookie while the players controlling the creatures must kill the rookie within the time limit.

The game is made up of two rounds each team will get to defend and attack.

The winning team is the team which kills the rookie. In the event that both teams kill the rookie it will be decided on who killed him the quickest.

In the event that no teams kill the rookie the winner will be determined by the rookie's remaining health points.

Onslaught

Two players will be put up against each other in this game mode. The objective is to get combos on kills, by doing so you will side monsters to the other players side. Get the most points and win the match.

In the event that you are killed by monsters sent to your side you will automatically lose the match.

Mercenaries and Mercenaries (No Mercy)

This classic game mode returns once again but this time with a twist. When creating the game players can choose rather or not they want Left 4 Dead creatures to be in the game as well. Yes folks! You can have the tank and the witch try and kill you in this mode.

Two players join forces in this game mode to try and kill up to 300 enemies within the time limit. The number of enemies needing to be killed is determined by the map chosen. Performing a Coup de grace will add 10 seconds to the game timer, breaking a orange time crystal will add 60 seconds to the timer or sometimes even 90 seconds.

This is my favourite game mode when playing with just one of my friends :)

Conclusion

Resident Evil 6 can be a extremely challenging to play and has a storyline worth carrying the name Resident Evil. Rather you are playing solo or with friends this game is a must play even if you only want to know how the story goes.

Score: 10/10

Counter kill give you +10s

Mercenaries is a cool mode but I wish that you could select weapons and costume separately.

Yeah, I forgot it was changed in the last patch. Updated the thread with some screenshots and I have a video of gameplay coming.

Actually Coup de grace and counter kill is 2 different things. Coup de grace still gives you +7s and counter kill gives you +10.

Coup de grace is preformed when you finish off capped enemy, and counter kill is counted while you kill doing counter move (You have to click just before enemy land his hit).

Hey remember when Resident Evil was a survival horror adventure game? Anyone? No?

Don't mind me then.

I might soon. But if Revelations is closer to it's roots, then why is it the numbered series is playing like a spinoff, and the spinoffs playing like the core series?

I think Capcom have this backwards.

I am playing revelations just now and it made me jump a few time, RE back to its roots.

I didnt liked RE6 that much to tell the truth but I didnt had a friend to play along and I think it makes a pretty huge difference.

We were finishing all the campaigns on No Hope difficulty and it was fun to watch ark die 100x :P

lol Mailamea is forgetting to mention that I only died due to saving her from death. She gets knocked down, I charge in to save her, I save her and then I die afterwards.

I was mostly dying at QTE, most annoying ever was plane crash, we had to look on youtube how it is working because my friend couldn't figure it out - and you can't switch places in that one.

Unfortunately, I have a very different opinion on Resident Evil 6. Don't get me wrong as it is a decent game. However, you need to lower your expectations a bit.

Graphics

Capcom really went to town on this regard. Everything just has this eerie vibe to it like I was experiencing a horror movie rather than a game itself. The engine is definitely a upgraded version of the Resident Evil 5 with added destruction such as walls and barrels.

Story

There are a lot of nods to the original games such as the first zombie encounter, the gun shop owner doing a Resident Evil 2 and as well as monster battles in Resident Evil. However, the nostalgia gets really let down by the story. So many things going all at once just didn't make sense. We start with Leon, then Jake and finally Chris. However, I would have started with Chris to link him back with what happened after Resident Evil 5 and then Leon and finally Jake. To me, having to go 'WTF' when I was playing Chris' campaign given what I knew of Resident Evil 5 was a shock.

There are other problems such as Jake himself. How does a douchebag like Wesker even fathered a kid given he's one walking virus tank. Me thinks Capcom did a Nominal Importance on this just because they're Capcom... >>

Gameplay

Bit mixed too. With a PS3 controller, I didn't like how the CQC uses stamina though I can understand through a realistic perspective. But it is a bit jarring though to use CQC when you have no ammo though. Running doesn't work as the enemy tends to have radar lock 100% of the time. However, I like the upgrades and as well as the weapons. They sounded strong and really made you think about using that gun/grenade/stun gun etc due to the lack of ammo.

Overall, I'd probably say it's a 6/10 at best. Might be lower once you factor in ridiculous QTE.
