Modsszzz Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Alright, so I did not reply right away because I wanted to take the time to understand what you are saying. Looking at the pictures you provided, I think my problem might be the buffer zone. Also, from my understanding you are saying that everyone has this issue but there are ways to hide it so most people do not notice. I guess my question now is I would like to know which mods I need to download to best hide the buffer zone. fireapple also mentioned that "the Diffuse (color) maps, Normal (bump) maps, Specular (gloss) maps, and the Sub-Surface (translucence) maps all need to be working in tandem." Is it possible that they are not functioning properly on my setup? I do not mix and match any files, I just install the skin mods with MO2 according to their requirements, so I don't think I should have this issue... Thank you so much for the response.

There isn't really a way to 100% fix this, it's just the way the game renders 3d objects. The texture is a 2d plane which is wrapped around a 3d mesh; this is the UV map, which you can see in Outfit Studio/Blender/etc. Like the article says, the skin texture is like paper being wrapped around the leg. The butt happens to be where the two sides of the paper meet up, and there is a seam here because the two sides are not exactly the same. It's up to the texture creators to try and match these two sides as closely as they can. Keep in mind that a 4k texture has more than 16 million pixels, and they all need to match up across the seam and also blend into the rest of the skin. And the normal maps, spec maps, and subsurface maps also need to match up, although the diffuse map is the most detailed by far. So there isn't anything wrong with your game, it's just a limitation of how bethesda renders objects. And unless you want to hand paint your own body skin pixel by pixel, there will be some kind of seam. 1

That is difficult to answer. There are some areas and lighting conditions in my own game that do a very poor job at hiding seams and "buffer" areas. It seems to me like warmer color temperatures (reds yellows and oranges) do a better job at hiding the areas where skin has been blended. So mods you would want to download would be some kind of enb that has good control over in game colors and maybe also try out different lighting and weather mods. I don't have any specific recommendations because I have never really taken the time to try and completely focus on fixing this issue because It would also change everything else in my games render too. 1 hour ago, Modsszzz said: fireapple also mentioned that "the Diffuse (color) maps, Normal (bump) maps, Specular (gloss) maps, and the Sub-Surface (translucence) maps all need to be working in tandem." Is it possible that they are not functioning properly on my setup? That can definitely be the case. I get worse seams on my own setup because I had to mix and match a lot of different specular maps and normal maps to get the skin on my character to look the way I wanted. That is also why some of the skin mods out there have this problem inherently worse than others. Some of them just didn't pay as much attention to this detail and didn't match normal map and specular map seams well. EDIT I do agree with what bnub said completely as well. further edit... a lot of times it can literally be part of the diffuse itself especially when it comes to blending. You can see the skin blending in this image of a diffuse below if you look closely between the black marks at the top. That is just part of the skin texture itself and is very common. Where the black marks is just where it starts and you may be able to see that it goes all the way down that left side. Spoiler Edited July 22, 2022 by yorpers
