I don't see how people can justify expensive anything for a pet.

I mean, if they die you can just get another one.

Animal shelters are overloaded with unwanted animals.

Christ... I feel awful posting that, it's simply a disgusting idea... but, some people kinda get attached to their pets so they are almost their children, so much so that saying "so what? You can just get another one instead of getting this one treated..." makes most people feel sick.

Now, I'm not having a go at you Dreamer... I know that there are people who just can't understand the bond that pets and their owners often develop. It's just something that either doesn't get experienced with their pets, or they don't have pets. (or something else... there's probably other reasons for it as well, but I can't think of them) I'm just trying to give an analogy for why people do spend so much money on their pets.

Hell, I spent almost £1k on getting my last pet treated... it would have been more but a UK charity has it's own clinics so it saved me a lot there. Didn't help though... had liver cancer and was way too far gone to be treated successfully. Poor thing died in my hands before the vet could put it to sleep.

Hmm... I appear to have something in my eyes... I'll just go wipe them. :(

If you're on a low income, the PDSA might be able to help you, if you're in a catchment area.

No offense taken Tregarin. You have every right to feel the way you do. I once did too...had a hamster named ralph that I loved dearly from the day I met him at Petland Discounts in Ny. He was my only and best friend for 4 years until he died peacefully in his sleep.

No one understood why I was so broken up about "a stupid hamster" but no one knew him like i did. And no one knew me like he did (stupid people).

Replacement pets were just pale shadows of Ralph and after a while...nothing mattered. Not dog, not cat, not hamster...nothing.

The one living thing that I felt actual pure love and friendship from had died...and there was no replacing him.

The medical industry as a whole is getting out of hand with fees, insurance and cost.

I'm glad I didn't offend you... and though it's way after the fact, you have my sympathy for your loss.
