Mad Companionship Spells Giving me short Lag Spikes

I'm completely and 100% sure that everytime MCS is activated my Oblivion has very short (1 second) lag spikes every 7-10 seconds. I have turned every single mod off until I got up to the one that was causing the delay, and it is Mad Companionship Spells...yet I have searched for any issues on lag with this mod in the past and everyone is suggesting it is so great. I have no doubt that the mod itself is what I want, but what is causing this lag? I don't think it's the mod, even though disabling it stops the lag.

Well for starters you are running a duplicate:

Crowded Roads Revisited.esp

From2ch Lives.esp

The from 2ch lives plugin is based on the crowd roads plugin so you are effectively doubling the amount of NPC's.  On top of that you have a ton of other crowded cities plugins and each of those adds even more NPC's to the game.  Each NPC has a scripted ai for behavior and toss all of those things together and I think what you are getting with the MCS lag is just that it is putting you over the top of what your computer may be able to handle. 

 

I don't know what this plugin is but it may be causing a conflict with MCS: CompanionMaster.esp

 

This also may be a duplicate:

1em_Vilja_as_lop_ear_elf.esp

Check and see if you are supposed to run both or were supposed to choose one or the other.

 

Remember that companion mods like Vilja, Valeria and Eyja are heavily scripted and all of those scripts firing off can eventually bog down your game, even if you have a strong system as Oblivion doesn't use more than one core or hyper-threading.

The spikes are still there but shorter, still every 7-10 seconds. I don't know what to try anymore. Thanks for the help you've given me so far.

Again, based on what you are seeing I think you are just suffering from too many plugins, with too many scripts\NPC's and so forth for your game and\or computer to handle.

 

One thing I noticed when reviewing your load order is you are missing a master plugin: TamagoClub.esm

This may be part of your issue as well.  Tamago club does have a number of scripts that fire so the repeated firing and failing due to the missing plugin "could" be effecting things a bit.

I have been getting the occasional 'spike' with an MCS companion following me, but usually only in caves, and usually only when there are enemies nearby (but we're not in combat). If I have a companion that is registered with MCS but who is in 'Do Free' mode, such as Vilja, I don't get the 'spikes', so I think it's something to do with the 'follow' mode.

 

I'm going to investigate further - I'll try to check if it's something to do with MCS's handling of armor/clothing changes or tail-slot items, or if it's interaction between MCS and Lovers plugins, or if it's something completely different.

 

One thing that did spring to mind - try disabling LoversJoburg and see if that has any effect.

I have been running companionMaster (a little known companion mod, in the style of MCS, with very interesting features), for about 10 hours by now, and i haven't found any issues. However, i never use the "follow" and "wait" commands of companionMaster, because obviously, that would conflict with MCS orders.

 

So, i do not think that companionMaster is the culprit. I don't experience any such lag spikes running both side by side. Here's a quick rundown on what companionMaster is:

- just like MCS, one has to add companions to a "list"

- just like MCS and CSR, it can be done to any NPC

- for companions that are in the list, one gets:

a) view/edit NPC flags (essential, respawn, rumors, questitem)

B) view stats and skills in an actually pleasant and clean way (as opposed to how humantouch does it)

c) ability to train companion skills, if your skill is higher. Only one companion per day.

d) ability to teach companions spells, if you can cast them, and they could cast them

e) horse riding support.

f) fix double-face bug command

g) optionally control which items companions wear (this might conflict with MCS, given how MCS wear handling is a magic black box. Careful there)

h) a not so comfortable way, to order a companion with lockpicks, to try unlocking it

g) a not so comfortable way, to order a companion to attack a specific target

h) a not so comfortable way, to order a companion to move to a specific location, including sneak support! (i'm not aware of any other generic companion mod, offering this)

i) support to let companions repair/recharge gear

j) follow and move commands (definatelly conflicts with MCS, but it should only do so, if you use those commands)

 

Maybe i'll make a post about this, in my CM companions without scripting thread, not sure yet. It kinda complements it, and MCS quite well, on the other hand, its not really "on-topic".

 

EDIT: One more comment about the OP..... 5-7 seconds exactly is the oblivion default script run interval. Whatever is doing this, is a script that either does not specify questDelayTime, or has it set to 5-7secs.

I'm currently trying to isolate, what seems to be the last remaining cause of my CTDs (much rarer by now). It happens when i have companions following, and when a lot of NPCs are in view. Maybe i'm hitting cell buffer limits, but then again i have streamline set to maximum, and it happens even in a zone, which i manually pcb'ed one minute ago. And it happens anywhere, when lots of NPCs are around... be it inn's, townstreets, or dungeons. I'm not sure if MCS is the culprit, given that others apparently get no such CTDs. My other candidate remaining (after disabling a lot of mods) are: tamagoClub, tamago-setbody revised and setbody reloaded (or it's ressourcefiles).
