If you go to the announcement in the tweet that's on the VV site, it specifically says there is no shared progress between Johren and Steam.

The johren version will be updated like the dmm version or it will be outdated like the steam version?

I would go in with the expectation that it's going to be more outdated than the Steam version.

If it will have an English dub, I will probably download the game from Johren.
