Update 1.9 and grey-face bug? SOLVED: Updates Posted! :)

***Hey people! I have a favour to ask of those of you who have your game updated to 1.9 and/or may be using the Dawnguard & Dragonborn expansions. I *REALLY* need to know if 1.9 has broken any of the followers I have made for Skyrim, and thus whether I need to re-package them.

Please click on my SIG to go to my mod page. The specific bug I am looking for is the "grey-face bug" - you will notice it if the face appears significantly discoloured from the body, and/or if the tintmasks (ie: makeup, warpaint, etc.) appear to be missing.***

If your game is updated to 1.9 & you would like to help me test this out (and I really hope you do), please click the link in my sig. At my mod page are several followers - Jochen and Uthgerd would probably be the quickest options, but ANY of them should be fine to take a look at. :)

like lordofthdread said , that is the "greyface bug"the easiest way to fix it is to find the followers on the ck click once on their name and hold control and press F4 , it's export the facegen.

No no - many thanks guys, but I know how to fix the grey-face bug! I need to find out if it's occurring on my mods when used in other people's games. Heh heh! My custom followers & modded NPC's have never had this problem. However, the grey-face bug re-appeared recently for a couple of users of my mods (apparently not load-order related, so I've covered that base), but I need confirmation from other players before I go ahead & re-export & re-upload a whole ton of mods unnecessarily. I already gave them the CK fix, but the problem shouldn't be occurring at all, and I can't seem to replicate it at my end.

Cant you just add the fagen data to you mod? Maybe it is stupid I am no modder bu seems reasonable to assume that you need to attach the proper facegen data to you custom followers if you want to distribute them as standalone

Just tried Jochen and he does indeed have "grey face".

D'OH!

Okay - 1.9 has definitely thrown a monkey-wrench in my works. I'll get these re-exported & re-uploaded tonight. I was hoping to spare people a mass update.

Many thanks indeed for your help, Veta! As a final confirmation, could one of you guys please try one of the Vanilla NPCs - either Mjoll or Uthgerd (I'd like to find out if there's any difference - if 1.9 has broken all my stuff including Vanilla overhauls, or just new non-vanilla/DLC NPC additions)?

Yes indeed - the facegen data is in fact one of two parts that a custom NPC mod *must* contain: a plugin (.esp in this case), and a correctly packaged facegen mesh. These elements are then added to a compressed archive file of some kind, and uploaded to a site like Nexus. People then download the archive, usually using a mod manager like NMM, which installs the mod in their game. Re-exporting a facegen in a sense counts as making a "new" one, which cannot be retrospectively added to an uploaded archive - it needs to be properly packaged and uploaded as a fresh archive in order to work correctly, which is likely what will be necessary here. :)

The workaround for users is still to load your mod in the CK and export the facegen data manually, I have no clues on making ESP as I never made one but I believe that if you export facegen data and then save the changes on your ESP it should work.

Correct! I have supplied this workaround - however, if the likely user base for it is "everyone who downloads my stuff", it's better to simply do the fix myself and upload the fixed version as an update. ^_^

*WHEW*! Okay - all followers now updated for Skyrim 1.9, my apologies for the additional delay! All are clearly labelled "1_9 Update" in the "Updates" section. Here's what to do:

- Locate the plugin of the follower you want to update in your Load Order. Take note of where it is (easy way: look at what's immediately above & below it & remember them).

- Download the new 1_9 update for the follower in the list with NMM. You can uninstall or over-write, it doesn't matter.

- Activate the mod, and place the follower's updated .esp where it was located in your load order.

This will keep your load order nice & tidy, and your game happy! happy.gif
